Sweden v Switzerland betting preview
Sweden qualified at Germany's expense courtesy of a strong defenseSweden incredibly topped the Group F with a thrashing 3-0 win over Mexico on Matchday 3, altough they were beaten by Germany 2-1 prior to that. The Scandinavians opened their World Cup campaign with a 1-0 victory over South Korea. The Swedes produced three stunning defensive displays against seriously strong attacking sides and showed a huge mental strength. They find themselves in the knockout stages of a World Cup for the eighth time in their history, but they have only managed to progress beyond this stage once in their last three appearances in the round of 16.
Sebastian Larsson was stretchered off against Mexico and will miss the match. Gustav Svensson is expected to replace him in midfield in what may be Jan Olof Andersson's only change to his favoured XI. Hiljemark provide a viable alternative. Marcus Berg and Ola Toivonen will spearhead the attack while the rock solid defense will remain unchanged, with Mikael Lustig, Victor Lindelof, Andreas Granqvist and Ludwig Augustinsson forming the four man backline.
Switzerland stretched their unbeaten run to 9 gamesSwitzerland finished as runners-up to Brazil in Group E having bagged five points in three games. They started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Brazil. Then, La Nati beat Serbia (1-2) and closed the group stage with a 2-2 thriller against Costa Rica. They have scored just once in the first half of fixtures during the tournament. The Swiss are now unbeaten in nine and have lost just once in their 25 fixtures since Euro 2016, a qualifier against Portugal.
Stephan Lichtsteiner and Fabian Schar are both suspended, with Michael Lang and Johan Djourou, respectively, set to deputise. Steven Zuber is a fitness doubt and could be repalced by Breel Embolo, while Mario Gavranovic is expected to lead the line. Blerim Dzemaili and Xherdan Shaqiri will complete the offensive midfield trio while Granit Xhaka and Valon Behrami will anchor the midfield.
