REAL MADRID v BAYERN MUNICH BETTING PREVIEW
Real Madrid are well-placed to book their spot in the semi-finals of the competition after a 2-1 victory at the Allianz last week. The Blancos followed that win with an unconvincing victory away to Sporting Gijon courtesy of a last-gasp goal scored by Isco. That result saw them stretching their lead at the top of La Liga to six points. They are unbeaten in 11 matches since their 2-1 La Liga defeat away at Valencia on February (W9 D2). The Spanish giants have won their last ten home matches in the Champions League and are unbeaten in this year's competition so far, winning 6 of the 9 matches.
Coach Zinedine Zidane wisely shuffled his pack at the weekend, resting Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and Lukas Modric. Actually, Gareth Bale is out through injury and should be replace by Isco up front. The Welshman has joined Raphael Varane and Pepe on the sidelines. In defense, Nacho will partner Sergio Ramos once again, with Marcelo and Dani Carvajal as full backs, and Casemiro deployes as midield shield to protect the backline.
Bayern Munich find themselves eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga despite they drew against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. Of course, they are focusing all their energies on the Champions League. Ancelotti’s side had already lost twice on the road in this season’s competition. The first one was in the away trip to Atletico Madrid, which was followed by a 3-2 loss at tournament debutants FC Rostov. The Bavarians have lost on their last five visits to the Bernabeu, all since 2002.
Carlo Ancelotti named a much-changed XI for the weekend draw with Bayer Leverkusen and they are expected to make several changes to his starting formation. Javi Martinez, who has been sent off in Munich, will be suspended for the second leg. Since Mats Hummels is out through injury, David Alaba could start alongside Jerome Boateng at the heart of the defence, with Juan Bernat playing at left-back and Philippe Lahm on the opposit side. Robert Lewandowski is a doubt with a shoulder issue but should recover in time to feature. The likes of Arjen Robben, Frank Ribery and Thiago Alcantara are favourite to form the offensive midfield trio behind the Polish striker.
