Arsenal vs Manchester City Betting Preview
Arsenal are unbeaten in the Premier League, having won 5 and drawn two of their seven league outings so far. Anyway, Mikel Arteta's side will be hoping to bounce back from their first defeat of the season at Lens (2-1) in Champions League in midweek. The Gunners started this matchweek in 2nd position in the standings, just one point shy of league leaders Man City. Last weekend, the North Londoners hammered Bournemouth 4-0 away while in their most recent game at Emirates they drew 2-2 against Tottenham in a very entertaining North London Derby.
Manchester City are top of the league after seven games. Anyway, Pep Guardiola saw his team's perfect start to the Premier League season come to an unexpected end last weekend, losing 2-1 at Wolves. The Cityzens returned to winning ways in Champions League, beating RB Leipzig 3-1 in Germany on Wednesday. City won just one of eight league matches away from against teams who finished ninth or higher in 2022/23, albeit that was a 3-1 win at Arsenal in February (which saw City rise to the top of the table at the expense of the Gunners). That was the Cityzens' sixth away victory against Arsenal at Emirates.
Best Odds
The odds are less levelled then you can expect, even on new betting sites. Leovegas have the best odds for an Arsenal win (23/10) with QuinnBet pricing the draw at 5/2. Manchester City are slightly favorites with a 29/20 as best price at 10bet.
Probable Line-Ups
Arsenal (4-3-3): Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Saka, Havertz, G.Jesus.
Bukayo Saka is in contention for the hosts, after limping off in the first-half of the defeat to Lens. Should he miss out, Fabio Vieira or Eddie Nketiah will play as right winger since Gabriel Martinelli is not 100% fit. Gabriel Jesus will lead the line alongside Kai Havertz. The likes of Thomas Partey and Declan Rice will anchor the midfield, while Martin Odegaard will support the front trio. No changes are expected at the back, where William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes will start as CB, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Ben White as full backs. Jurrien Timber is a long term absentee.
Man City (4-2-2-2): Ederson; Walker, Akanji, R. Dias, Akè; Lewis, Kovacic; B.Silva, Grealish; Alvarez, Haaland
As for the visitors, Rodri is out as he serves the final match of his domestic ban. Rico Lewis is favorite to replace the Spaniard as he shone in that position against Leipzig. Matheus Nunes provides a further alternative. Bernardo Silva is now available for selection and is expected to feature from the off on the right flank, with Jack Grealish playing on the other side. Julian Alvarez should partner Erling Haaland upfront while Josko Gvardiol could be rested in defense. As a result, Nathan Akè is likely to start as left back, with Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji play at the heart of the defense. Kevin De Bruyne remains sidelined while John Stones is nearing his return.
Our Arsenal vs Manchester City Predictions
Arsenal have an awful record against Man City, a team they haven’t beaten in the league since December 2015.
Plus, Man City remain the only team Mikel Arteta has failed to record a win against in the Premier League since he was appointed as Arsenal manager.
The Gunners have looked vulnerable in defence at times this season, particularly at home, but we don't expect a high scoring affair this time.
We expect a very levelled game and as a consequence, we back the 1-1 draw.
Julian Alvarez is the in-form man for the visitors and could continue to "outshine" Erling Haaland.
