The Philadelphia Eagles were last in the NFC East last year with a record of 7-9. After Carson Wentz’s season-ending ACL injury, they have been underdogs all the way. New England's defence was really having some issues earlier in the campaign but they dramatically improved by signing some free-agents, altough they ranked 29th in yard allowed defensively. The Patriots have the great quarterback, the best coach, an array of attacking options and improving defence. Furthermore, Gronkowski will be ready just in time for another Super Bowl appearance.
The Eagles were very good defensively throughout the season, ranking 4th overall for fewest yards allowed to opponents. They have held teams to a combined 33 points in their last four games. As for the offense, Nick Foles is on fire, and Jay Ajayi came over midseason to help out the running game with former Patriots LeGarrette Blount. The tight ends for the Eagles caught the most touchdowns in all of the league.
Last year we saw the greatest comeback ever in a Super Bowl. At one point in the third quarter, the Falcons were on cruise control at 25 points ahead (28-3). Anyway, New England rattled off 19 unanswered points in the final quarter to take the game to overtime where they finished the job courtesy of a James White’s two-yard touchdown run.
Patriots vs Eagles is a rematch of the 2004 Super Bowl. On that occasion it was New England who ran out winners thanks to a trademark fourth-quarter-surge. While the Patriots make a record-breaking 10th appearance in the Super Bowl, for the Eagles this will be their 3rd appearence in the highlight match of the NFL season, having failed to win their first two attempts. On the other side, the Pats will be gunning for their sixth Super Bowl win and will be making their eighth appearance in 18 years at the playoff finale.
