NAPOLI v JUVENTUS BETTING PREVIEW
In between home and away defeats to Real Madrid in the Champions League, Napoli also lost 2-0 at home to Atalanta in Serie A and 3-1 at Juventus in Coppa Italia, while they only just managed a 3-2 success at struggling Empoli before the international break. Their Coppa Italia loss to the Old Lady’s was their fifth defeat in their last six direct encounters. Anyway, the Partenopei will play the second leg at home on Wednesday. The "Azzurri" are the highest-scoring side in Serie A having netted 68 goals in 29 games.
Lorenzo Tonelli is Napoli's only confirmed absentee as goalkeeper Pepe Reina should recover in time and strikers Arkadiusz Milik and Leonardo Pavoletti are fully fit. Anyway, manager Maurizio Sarri is likely to field a "light tridente" formed by Lorenzo Insigne, Jose Callejon and Dries Mertens. In midfield, Amadou Diawara and Jorginho are in contention for a starting berth alongside captain Marek Hamsik and Allan, with the youngster Marko Rog providing a further option.
Juventus have racked up 73 points already having won 24 of their 29 league games this term. Their recent form has been incredible since switching to a new system after that loss. In the 14 matches since, they have won 13 and avoided defeat in all of them. With a titanic Champions League tussle against Barcelona on the horizon, the Bianconeri will be determined to maintain their eight-point cushion over Roma at the Serie A summit, powering towards a sixth straight Serie A title triumph.
Marko Pjaca and Mario Mandzukic are both expected to miss out for Juventus. The former has damaged his knee ligament and will be absent for the next 6 months. As a result, coach Massimiliano Allegri could decide to revert to a 4-2-3-1 starting system. This could see Claudio Marchisio joining Miralem Pjanic and Sami Khedira in midifeld, Gonzalo Higuain spearheding the attack, with Juan Cuadrado and Paulo Dybala in the offensive midfield positions. The likes of Stefano Sturaro and Mehdi Benatia are both sidelined.
