MANCHESTER UNITED v DORTMUND BETTING PREVIEWJose Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford began with a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic in a pre-season club friendly last Saturday, through goals from Will Keane and Andreas Pereira and gave unofficial debuts to newcomers Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly. The Red Devils are still trying to add to their squad, as they look to be actively hunting Paul Pogba.
Wayne Rooney, David De Gea and Marcus Rashford are among the Manchester United players who could make their first pre-season appearance. Another notable feature of the Wigan game was Luke Shaw’s return to action for the first time since his horrific double leg-break last September. The likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Anthony Martial, Marouane Fellaini and Matteo Darmian, who were all involved in the quarter-finals and beyond of Euro 2016, will miss the match. Mourinho has given Zlatan Ibrahimovic an extended break that will see him miss the next two friendly matches.
Dortmund have been a lot busier than their opponents this summer and were involved in four friendly games so far. They have recorded a 5-2 win over Erkenschwick, a 2-0 win over Wuppertaler SV, a 3-2 win over St. Pauli and a 1-0 defeat to Munich 1860. The German team are likely to be in more of a summer mood than United, who have to get into gear more quickly.
BVB has spent more than £80 million this summer, having signed Mario Gotze, Sebastian Rode, Raphael Guerreiro, Marc Bartra, Ousmane Dembele and Emre Mor. Anyway, they have lost three key stars in Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Manager Thomas Tuchel is expected to field a number of fringe players such as goalkepeer Bonmann and offensive midfielders Scuderi and Passlack.
