BENFICA v BORUSSIA DORTMUND BETTING PREVIEW
Benfica have won eight of their last nine on home soil and have scored 23 goals in the last six of those. The Portuguese outfit finished second in their group behind winners Napoli. They lost both their matches against Napoli, while 8 points came from two wins against Dynamo Kiev and a pair of draws against Besiktas. The Eagles followed their final group game defeat to Napoli with a run of eight straight victories and eventually went 11 games unbeaten in all competitions. The last of those games was a 3-0 win at home to Arouca on Friday night.
Kostas Mitroglou and Jonas are likely to spearhead the attack in a 4-4-2 formation. Pizzi and Ljubomir Fejsa are expected to start in the middle of the park while Eduardo Salvio failed to shake off an injury to feature last time out and he is a major doubt. Andrija Zivkovic is ruled out through suspension while left back Alejandro Grimaldo and centre back Lisandro Lopez are sidelined.
Dortmund have not been particularly consistent this season. They have won their group with a 2 point cushion over LaLiga giants Real Madrid. Since their last Champions League match, they have won just twice in their last seven, drawing four and losing one. That was against SV Darmstadt at the weekend. As a result, BVB currently sit 4th in the Bundesliga standings, well behind league leaders Bayern Munich and surprising packages RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt. Their away form is absolutely questionable as they have only won one of their last six on the road and have not kept a clean sheet on the road since September.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will play as central striker in a 4-1-4-1 formation. The likes of Christian Pulisic, Marko Reus and Gonzalo Castro look sure to start behind the Gabonese while Ousmane Dembele is doubtful due to his father's death. Mario Gotze, Marcel Schmelzer and Lukasz Piszczek all missed last time out and they are not expected to feature here, joining Sven Bender, Nuri Sahin and Sebastian Rode on the sidelines.
