ATLETICO MADRID vs ARSENAL BETTING PREVIEW
Atletico Madrid have the upper hand in this clash after Antoine Griezmann's cancelled out Alexandre Lacazette's opener in the first leg. The major factor in Atleti's favour is just how solid they are defensively at the Wanda Metropolitano - they have only conceded 9 goals in 26 matches this season. Of those 26 games played in front of their own fans this term, only the result in one of them (the 2-1 Champions League defeat by Chelsea) would see Diego Simeone's men knocked out on Thursday night. They have kept clean sheets in each of their last 11 home matches in all competitions and have suffered only one loss at home in the current campaign combining all competitions.
The hosts have right-back Sime Vrsaljko suspended after his red card in the first leg but forward Diego Costa should return after missing last week's fixture at Emirates. With Juanfran and Filipe Luis also expected to miss out, Thomas Partey may be required at right-back. This would see Gabi partner Saul Niguez in the middle of the park, with Koke and Angel Correa out wide. Up front, Diego Costa will join Antoine Griezmann, with Fernando Torres and Kevin Gameiro viable alternatives.
Arsenal enter this match on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Manchester UTD over the weekend. Anyway, Arsene Wenger rested all his key players ahead of the 2nd leg match of the Europa League semifinals. The Gunners blew a magnificent chance to build a commanding lead in the first leg only managing to draw 1-1 despite Atletico Madrid were reduced to ten men after just ten minutes. Arsenal are huge underdogs here as they have only won two of their last 12 away games in all competitions, losing 6 of their last 9 away matches. Their most recent remarkable success on the travels came in this competition back in March, when the Gunners beat AC Milan 2-0 at Stadio San Siro.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is a major doubt for hte Gunners after the Armenian made his comeback from injury at the weekend and was taken off after picking up a knock. Alex Iwobi, David Ospina and Sead Kolasinc are the other doubts for Arsene Wenger. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ineligible to play, meaning that Alexandre Lacazette will spearhead the attack. The Frenchman will be likely supported by Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck, with the likes of Granit Xhaka, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey anchoring the midfield. Mohamed Elneny is out through injury. In defense, Nacho Monreal, Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi were all given the weekend off and are surely starters.
