Tottenham vs Newcastle betting preview
Tottenham have won their last four Premier League matches against NewcastleAfter a 3-1 win over Aston Villa in their season opener, Tottenham posted a battling 2-2 draw at champions Manchester City last time out, despite managing just three attempts at goal throughout the clash. That result ended a six-match away losing run. Mauricio Pochettino's men have won their last four direct encounters with Newcastle, conceding just one goal and winning 1-0 on both of the Magpies' most recent visits to London.
Pochettino definitely has a selection dilemma on his hands with Son Heung Min and Lucas Moura in contention for a starting berth in the offensive midfield trio, where Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela looks sure to start behind the lone striker Harry Kane. Giovani Lo Celso is also an option in attack. Record £55 million signing Tanguy Ndombele has been ruled out of this contest with a thigh injury while Juan Foith has served a three-match ban but remains unavailable. Dele Alli and Ryan Sessegnon are both injured and Ben Davies is a doubt.
Newcastle United have got off on the wrong foot with back to back defeatsNewcastle are one of four teams to lose their opening two Premier League matches this season. After a promising display against Arsenal (0-1), the Magpies were comfortably beaten by Norwich (3-1 away). Steve Bruce will be keen to avoid becoming the first permanent manager to lose his opening three league games at the club. Last season, Newcastle took 11 games to record their first win, although they did not lose any of those matches by more than a goal.
Andy Carroll has an ankle problem and Dwight Gayle has been out with a calf problem sustained in pre-season. Newcastle striker Joelinton is fit after the £40million record signing limped out of the loss at Norwich with a hip problem. He should be partnered by Miguel Almiron as Allan Saint-Maximin is not 100% fit. Sean Longstaff may return to the centre of midfield after Ki Sung-yueng's anonymous display at Carrow Road. Emil Krafth and Federico Fernandez will be hoping for a chance at centre-half after the shaky defensive display in East Anglia. The likes of DeAndre Yedlin, Florian Lejeune and Christian Atsu are all ruled out for the visitors.
