TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 6 BETTING PREVIEW
From start to finish, stage 6 is a relentless up-and-down affair, so this oss the most unpredictable stage of the week.
Not only the sprinters will be in action, but also the GC riders and the classics specialists - even if a breakaway can also potentially succeed on the day.
These are the six categorised climbs:
- 35.5km: Côte du Mont Pinçon – Category 3 (5.6 km at 3.7%)
- 56km: Côte de la Rançonnière – Category 3 (2.2 km at 7.9%)
- 138km: Côte de Mortain – Category 3 (1.6 km at 9.5%)
- 154.5km: Côte de Juvigny-le-Tertre – Category 3 (2.2 km at 7.3%)
- 174.3km: Côte de Saint-Michel-de-Montjoie – Category 3 (3.7 km at 4.5%)
- 197.1km: Côte de Vaudry – Category 4 - (1.2 km at 7.2%)
The final ascent is the shortest one but should not be underestimated. The final 700 meters are brutally steep: they average 10.2%, with the steepest sections reaching up to 14%.
Stage 6 Favourites
With such a challenging finish, it’s hard to see anyone other than Tadej Pogacar as favorite #1 for the stage win. The Slovene finished second to Mathieu Van Der Poel in Stage 2 but avenged that loss in Stage 4, beating the Dutchman in a similar route.
Van Der Poel has surrendered the Yellow Jersey to Pogaçar in the time-trial, but he probably saved energies for this stage. Steep gradients in the fin 700 meters will not favour him, but we expect a close battle.
After a disappointing Time-Trial on Wednesday, Jonas Vingegaard will want to shake off any doubts now circulating about his GC challenge. With more climbing meters and a steeper finish, the Dane might stand a better chance.
Remco Evenepoel, fresh winner of Stage 5, will aim to further reduce the gap from the GC leader but short climbs do not suit the Belgian, so we expect him to run conservatively.
Possible Surprises
Kévin Vauquelin, Romain Grégoire and Oscar Onley are the riders that can upset the odds. They arrived few second behind the winners in both Stage 2 and Stage 4, and they could try to anticipate the "Big Three". Thibau Nys and Julian Alaphilippe are other puncheurs to keep an eye on.
Primoz Roglic and Florian Lipowitz have few chances to resist when the race explodes while João Almeida and Matteo Jorgenson are in good form but they will support their captains, Pogaçar and Vingegaard respectively. Wout Van Aert looks out of form.
In case of early break, there are whole bunch of possible attackers: Axel Laurance, Jonas Abrahamsen, Ivan Romeo, Neilson Powless, Marc Hirschi, Mauro Schmid, Ben Healy, and Valentin Madouas are the riders that are worth a mention.
