Spain v France betting preview

Spain are UEFA Nations League title holders and current European Champions. La Roja came through a close quarter-final against the Netherlands, drawing 5-5 on aggregate and winning 5-4 on spot kicks. Luis De La Fuente's men did well in the group stage of this competition, where they topped Group 4 with five wins, one draw and 16 goals scored in six matches. They are unbeaten in the last 18 matches - their last defeat came  away to Scotland (2-0) towards the start of Euro 2024 qualifying.

France secured their place in the UEFA Nations League semifinals despite losing 2-0 in the quarter-finals first leg match against Croatia in Split. Les Blues responded with a 2-0 victory in Paris before winning 5-4 on penalties. Didier Deschamps is still facing criticism after a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign where his well-fancied side scored just four goals across six matches (just one on open play).

Spain are also the defending UEFA Nations League champions after beating Croatia on penalties in the 2023 final. Anyway, in 2021 France triumphed in the Nations League by beating 2-1 Spain in the final, courtesy of goals scored by Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema. These two nations also met in the last four of Euro 2024 in Germany with La Roja coming out on top 2-1.

Best Odds

Spain are the favourites to win in Stuttgart at around 7/5 (2.40) with odds shortening, while France are around 45/19 (or 3.36). The Draw is available at around 9/4 (or 3.44 with non-UK bookies).

Probable Line-ups

Spain (4-3-3): Simon  — Porro, Cubarsi, Huijsen, Cucurella — Olmo, Zubimendi, F. Ruiz — Lamine Yamal, Morata, N. Williams.

Spain have called up new Real Madrid centre-back Dean Huijsen, and the former Bournemouth player could start alongside Pau Cubarsì, while it will be between Pedro Porro and Oscar Mingueza on the right. Up front, Ballon D'Or candidate Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams will flank the veteran Alvaro Morata. Arsenal-bound Martin Zubimendi is expected to start in the middle of the park, alongside Fabian Ruiz and Dani Olmo. 2024 Ballon D'Or Rodri and former Man Cty's Ferran Torres will not be risked.

France (4-3-3): Maignan — Gusto, Konate, Pavard, T. Hernandez — Guendouzi, Tchouameni, Rabiot — Olise, Dembele, Mbappe.

France are without key players at the back. Dalot Upcamecano, William Saliba and Jules Kounde are long-term injuries, while Eduardo Camavinga misses out along with his Real Madrid teammate Ferland Mendy. Hence, Benjamin Pavard should partner Ibrahima Konatè at the heart of the four man backline, with Malo Gusto and Theo Hernandez starting as full backs. Clement Lenglet and uncapped Loic Bade are further alternatives. Up front, Kylian Mbappe is a lock to start as he returned from a short national team exile in March and is expected to be flanked by Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembele. The likes of Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola and Marcus Thuram provide further options. Matteo Guendouzi, Adrien Rabiot and Aurelien Tchouameni will anchor the midfield.

Our Spain v France Betting Tips

La Roja have developed into a winning machine under coach Luis de la Fuente. Befeore their home and away draws with the Netherlands in the quarter finals, they had won 13 of their previous 15 internationals in 90 minutes.

Moreover, Lamine Yamal has reached a new level in recent months and is probably the best footballer in the world at the moment.

As was the case 11 months ago at the Euros, we're backing Spain to overcome France in a semi-final.

We expect both teams to score, so we go for Spain to win 2-1 in the Correct Score market.
