England U21 vs Netherlands U21 Betting Preview
England easily breezed past Spain 3-1 in their quarter-finals tie, courtesy of goals from James McAtee, Harvey Elliott and Elliot Anderson. The Young Lions failed to impress during the opening stages of the competition, but appear to have now found their feet. Lee Carlsey's men opened up with a 3-1 victory over the Czech Republic only to endure a goalless draw with Slovenia and relinquish top spot to Germany following a 2-1 defeat in Nitra.
The Netherlands finished second behind Denmark in Group D but managed beat Portugal 1-0 in the last-8 round. Ernest Poku's strike was enough to secure a semifinal berth, despite going a man down in the first half. They were also lucky as their opponents hit the post from the penalty spot minutes before grabbing their winner. In group stage, Michael Reiziger’s side drew 2-2 with Finland and suffered a 2-1 defeat to Denmark. They qualified courtesy of a 2-0 vctory over Ukraine in the final game.
Best Odds
The bookies see England U21 favourite to win in 90 minutes. The Young Lions are priced 6/5 (2.20) to secure a victory while Netherlands are around 12/5 (3.40). The draw is backable at 27/10 (or 3.62 with non-UK bookmakers).
Probable Line-Ups
England U21 (4-2-3-1): Beadle; Hinshelwood, Quansah, Cresswell, Livramento; Scott, Anderson; Elliott, McAtee, Hutchinson; Stansfield.
Lee Carsley will be without Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton, who picked up a second yellow card of the tournament last time out and will therefore be suspended for the semi-final. Despite being the target of a potential leg-breaker against Spain, Tino Livramento emerged from the game unscathed and will be fit to start. Elliot Anderson could act as a notable return to the side in midfield. Birmingham’s big-money purchase Jay Stansfield is expected to lead the line, supported by Harvey Elliott, James McAtee and Omari Hutchinson. Further options are provided by Ethan Nwaneri and Jonathan Rowe.
Netherlands U21 (4-3-3): Roefs; Kasanwirjo, Van den Berg, Hato, Maatsen; Flamingo, Valente, Meijer; Manhoef, Van Bergen, Poku.
The Dutch team will be without Ruben van Bommel after his sending off against Portugal. Devyne Rensch and Kenneth Taylor are also banned having picked up a second yellow on Saturday. As a result, the likes of Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Bjorn Meijer should feature from the off. Ryan Flamingo and Luciano Valente are likely to retain their place in the middle of the park. Up front, Ernest Poku, who started against Portugal on the bench and scored the decider, could be rewarded with a starting berth.
Our England U21 vs Netherlands U21 Predictions
Netherlands showed plenty of grit and resilience last time out, defeating Portugal despite playing most of the match with 10 men. After a nervy 2-2 draw in their opening match against Finland, they have only conceded one goal.
It will be hard to keep a clean sheet against England, as the Young Lions possess plenty of attacking talent.
They have found top form at the right time and we believe England U21 will win the match. We also expect both teams to score, hence a 2-1 England win is our pick in the Correct Score market.
Watch out for Elliott Anderson to have 1+ shots on target. As for the Dutchmen, Ernest Poku is our pick in the Shots on Target market.
