England vs Croatia Betting Preview
England are one of the ante-post favourites to lift the cup this summer. They are around 7/1 with most online bookmakers (888sport have boosted the Three Lions to 45/1) to win the tournament. The Three Lions powered through qualifying for this tournament, being successful in seven of eight matches. Their only loss in qualifiers did come against Czech Republic in Prague. Furthermore, Gareth Southgate's men scored a whopping 37 goals in their eight qualifying matches - their nearest rivals in the group only scored 13! The Three Lions have not been at their best in their two warm-up games ahead of their Euro 2020 opener but they managed to beat both Austria and Romania and keep a clean sheet.Croatia finished runners-up to France at Russia 2018 but have been less convincing since that tournament. They struggled in their Euro 2021 qualifying group but finally managed to to top it. The "Blazers" were able to just barely stay in Nations League A after winning only one game in the proverbial “Group of Death”. More recently, the Blazers were beaten 1-0 away to Slovenia in the opening set of World Cup qualifiers. They've won just two of their last eight internationals and those victories were over minnows such as Malta and Cyprus. Zlatko Dalic’s side are in a period of transition, with the likes of Luka Modric, Ivan Perisic and Ivan Rakitic advancing well into their thirties.
Since the infamous 2018 World Cup exit, the teams have met since in the Nations League, with England coming out victorious 2-1 at home and sharing the spoils in Croatia (0:0).
Best Odds & Enhanced Prices
England are 4/5 with Bet365 to win on Sunday, with Croatia priced at 21/5 at 888sport to come away with the victory. A draw is priced at 53/20 with SportingIndex.Below you can find the best odds enhancement on this clash and teams involved in this fixture.
Probable Line-Ups
England (3-4-3): Pickford; Walker, Coady, Stones; James, Rice, Mount, Shaw; Foden, Sancho, KaneTrent Alexander-Arnold pulled out of the squad with a thigh injury while Harry Maguire is almost certain to miss this opening match. Ben White has been called up - and he could even make a surprise start. Harry Kane was rested in the win over Romania and is expected to lead the line. Jadon Sancho and Phil Foden should flank the Tottenham forward. Jack Grealish, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling provide further offensive options. Kyle Walker performed well as a right-sided centre-back and should retain that berth in a three man backline alongside the highly rated Conor Coady and John Stones. In midfield, Mason Mount and Decaln Rice look sure of a starting berth.
Croatia (4-2-3-1): Livakovic; Vrsaljko, Vida, Lovren, Barisic; Brozovic, Kovacic; Rebic, Modric, Perisic; Petkovic
Striker Bruno Petkovic is expected to fill Mario Mandzukic's big boots at the Euros. Dejan Lovren and Ante Rebic both shook off injury concerns and are expected to start. Mateo Kovacic should partner Marcelo Brozovic in the middle of the park, while Luka Modric should play as number ten. Mario Pasalic will provide a viable alternative while Josip Brekalo is not 100% fit and will not be risked. The likes of Sime Vrsaljko and Borna Barisic will start as full backs.
England v Croatia Predictions
Croatia knocked out England in the World Cup semi-final three years ago, but the Three Lions should have enough - especially on home soil - to pick up three valuable points here. Anyway, our experts don't expect a classic and reckon this could be decided by the odd goal.Euro 2020 is the highlight sporting event of this summer and there is no shortage of betting sites offering free bets on the tournament.
