BURNLEY vs NEWCASTLE BETTING PREVIEW
Burnley’s six match unbeaten run in the Premier League has come to an end with a 3-0 defeat at Manchester City last time out. The Clarets, who are 1-3-1 over all competitions this season on home soil, are 9th in the Premier League standings and could leapfrog a couple of teams should they win. They have only won one of their four home games in the Premier league, drawing twice and losing against West Brom early in the campaign. Sean Dyche's men began the weekend as the joint lowest goalscorers at home in the Premier League this season but they conceded only 6 goals before the Man City game.
Sean Dyche revealed Chris Wood is a major doubt due to a hamstring injury, but the Clarets boss is hopeful that Sam Vokes will recover from an abdominal strain to be available, with Ashley Barnes the other alternative. Regular midfield starters Jack Cork, Steven Defour, Robbie Brady and Jeff Hendrick should all keep their places in the side, as well as the usual back four of Matthew Lowton, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski and Stephen Ward. Jonathan Walters and Tom Heaton remain Burnley's only other injury concerns.
Newcastle find themselves one point ahead of Burnley after last week's narrow 1-0 result over Crystal Palace at home. They are 8th in the Premier League standings despite starting the season on back-to-back defeats. The 14 points they have collected is the best tally by a newly promoted side since West Ham in 2012. The Magpies have only lost one of their last seven matches but have only picked up one away league win all season. Furthermore, Only one of Newcastle’s four away matches this term has contained more than one goal.
Rafa Benitez is not expected to make wholesale changes to his starting XI, although Mikel Merino will be hoping for a recall after scoring a late winner off the bench. The Spaniard could replace Isaac Hayden in central midfield, with Jonjo Shelvey’s starting spot perhaps less at risk. Ayoze Perez and Joselu look set to keep their places in attack, with Aleksandar Mitrovic and the fit-again Dwight Gayle the back-up options. The back four of DeAndre Yedlin, Florian Lejeune, Jamaal Lascelles and Javier Manquillo is expected to stay unchanged. Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidare are both sidelined.
