Stage 4 of the Tour de France, from Mondorf-les-Bains to Vittel, comes with a flat profile that will put the sprinters up front and will see riders on French soil for the first time in this edition. TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 4 BETTING PREVIEW Without major climbs, this stage should offer a second opportunity for the fast men. It will see little action until the intermediate sprint and the category 4 climb, both occurring after 150km of racing. Anyway, crosswinds could quite well be a factor on the roads of Meurthe-et-Moselle and the finale is on a false flat slightly uphill road. But men like Quick-Step’s Marcel Kittel, Lotto-Soudal’s Andre Greipel, and Dimension Data’s Mark Cavendish will have no trouble with it.
Anyway, we expect a breakaway to gain a large gap before the sprinter’s teams (who couldn’t care less about Wednesday’s finish atop the Category 1 la Planche des Belles Filles) bring the peloton back together for a field sprint.
Marcel Kittel was the fastest sprinter by far and will try to get another win in the bag before he takes a back seat in the mountains.
Arnaud Demare finished second to Kittel in Stage 2 and is eager to improve on that result. He won a stage of the Criterium du Dauphiné in reasonably similar circumstances.
Michael Matthews just missed out to Sagan in stage 3 and just scrape into the top 10 in stage 2 but he could be a dangerous contender here.
Peter Sagan recorded an impressive victory on Monday despite suffering a pedal problem in the final straight, and could take advantage of the tricky finish. He is the best rider in surfing wheels and this could be a decisive factor here.
Evergreen sprinters Mark Cavendish and Andre Greipel will look to finish more strongly this time, whilst Nacer Bouhanni and Dylan Groenewegen will have been disappointed with their finishing positions and can do better.
Alexander Kristoff and Sonny Colbrelli could be in the mix for a podium finish while we give no chances to Dan McLay, Ben Swift, Adrien Petit, Edwald Boasson Hagen and Matteo Trentin.
