TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 20 BETTING PREVIEW
It’s a very short stage at just 110.5 kilometers, so expect a high pace all day. Alpe d’Huez (15 km, 8.1%) is certainly the climax to this stage, but after a downhill run of 25km from the start the road angles upward in the form of the now-familiar Col de la Croix de Fer.
Nairo Quintana confirmed in Stage 19 that he is currently the strongest climber and he is the red hot favourite to win on the Alpe D'Huez. He needs to earn more than 2 minutes to Froome so the Colombian knows that is a all-or-nothing stage. He need a perfect team strategy to achieve his goal but Movistar could not use Valverde to isolate the yellow jersey because the Spaniard will try to defend his third place.
Nibali needs to gain 1.19 on Valverde to move onto the podium and will make fireworks, even if he spent a lot of energy on Friday's stage. The Italian is a 3-week rider while Chris Froome, as shown yesterday, usually looks more vulnerable during the third week as well as Alejandro Valverde. So, we expect the Italian make the first attack given that he is the best to recover from the effort of the previous day.
Furthermore, there is no doubt that Contador will try another long-distance attack but the Spaniard doesn't look to have the condition to "make the difference".
We are pretty sure that Thibaut Pinot, Romain Bardet and Joaquim Rodriguez will make an early move, expecially because they would like to earn KOM points on the first climb.
Warren Barguil, Robert Gesink, Bauke Mollema, Mathias Frank and Pierre Rolland all looked exhausted.
Rafal Majka probably has to stay with Contador but the team may also decide to send him on the attack. Andrew Talansky will try once again but he has not much fuel left in his legs while Steven Kruijswijk was one of the strongest riders in yesterday's stage and could be a surprise.
Other dark horses with a bit of energy left? We want to mention Winner Anacona, Samuel Sanchez, Bob Jungels and Cyril Gautier.
