The two teams from Milan enter this clash with a completely different mood compared to the day this match was originally scheduled. Inter Milan have rediscovered form, while AC Milan have lost 3-1 against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium last weekend. The Rossoneri have progressed to the Coppa Italia final, courtesy of victory on penalties over Lazio on Wednesday night. They have won the last 4 league matches at home, five consecutive Serie A games before to lose at the hands of Juve and sit 6th in the table, 8 points below 4th placed Inter Milan. After 8 consecutive clean sheets in all competitions, Gattuso's men conceded 8 goals in the last three outings (2 against Cheivo, 3 to Juventus and Arsenal).
Manager Gennaro Gattuso is not expected to make wholesale changes compared to the team who started in Turin last time out. Nikola Kalinic should get the nod over Patrick Cutrone for the central forward berth, with Andrè Silva benched again. The Nerazzurri currently sit 4th in the standings, two points below Romba but with this game in hand. Should they lose to their city rivals, AC Milan will join the fight for a top 4 finish. In the reverse match, Luciano Spalletti's men recorded a last-gasp 3-2 win, courtesy of a hat-trick scored by Mauro Icardi. AC Milan get their revenge last January, when the Nerazzurri suffered a 1-0 defeat in Coppa Italia.
Mauro Icardi will lead the line after scoring 5 goals in the last two matches. Eder will sit on bench whre he could find Borja Valero and Matias Vecino, since Roberto Gagliardini and Marcelo Brozovic have been almost perfect in recent times in the middle of the park. Rafinha is expected to play in the number 10 role, allowing Antonio Candreva to start as right winger, with Ivan Perisic on the other side. An alternative could see Borja Valero playing behind Icardi, or Yann Karamoh starting on the right flank in place of Candreva. In defense, Joao Miranda should be fully fit to partner Milan Skriniar as central back.
