Australia vs Wales betting preview

Australia aim to get revenge for last November's loss to Wales

Australia made hard work of beating  Fiji in the opening match, overturning a 14–12 half-time deficit to win 39–21. The Wallabies  came into this World Cup in fine form, having beaten New Zealand 47-26 - a record margin - in the Rugby Championship last month. They lost at the hands of Wales (9-6) last autumn, a result that ended a run of 13 consecutive wins over the Dragons.

The Aussie have no major injury concerns but have made changes to their backline. Winger Reece Hodge has been hit with a three-match suspension following a reviewed incident post match. Adam Ashley-Cooper replaces hime. Plus, Head coach Michael Cheika has brought half-backs Will Genia and Bernard Foley into the team in place of Nic White and Cristian Lealiifano. Furthermore, Dane Haylett-Petty replaces Kurtley Beale at full-back.

Australia Starting Line-up

15 Dane Haylett-Petty, 14 Adam Ashley-Cooper, 13 James O’Connor, 12 Samu Kerevi, 11 Marika Koroibete, 10 Bernard Foley, 9 Will Genia, 8 Isi Naisarani, 7 Michael Hooper (c), 6 David Pocock, 5 Rory Arnold, 4 Izack Rodda, 3 Allan Alaalatoa, 2 Tolu Latu, 1 Scott Sio

Replacements: 16 Jordan Uelese, 17 James Slipper, 18 Sekope Kepu, 19 Adam Coleman, 20 Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, 21 Nic White, 22 Matt Toomua, 23 Kurtley Beale

Wales have lost against Australia in each of the last two World Cups

Wales recorded a routine victory over Georgia 43-14 in their first match but Warren Gatland was understandably furious after his side’s second-half display. The Dragons played some of their best rugby this year in the opening forty minutes, scoring 4 unanswered tries but after the break, they struggled to impose their game on the Georgians. The Welsh limped through their World Cup warm up games, winning just one of four contests, but let's not too hastily forget they won all the matches of the 2019 Six Nations.

Wales are unchanged from their win over Georgia, with Alun Wyn Jones set to win a record 130th cap, surpassing the previous mark set by Gethin Jenkins. They have very few injury concerns, and Hadleigh Parkes is the biggest of those concerns with a fracture in his hand.

Wales Starting Line-up

15 Liam Williams, 14 George North, 13 Jonathan Davies, 12 Hadleigh Parkes, 11 Josh Adams, 10 Dan Biggar, 9 Gareth Davies, 8 Josh Navidi, 7 Justin Tipuric, 6 Aaron Wainwright, 5 Alun Wyn Jones (c), 4 Jake Ball, 3 Tomas Francis, 2 Ken Owens, 1 Wyn Jones

Replacements: 16 Elliot Dee, 17 Nicky Smith, 18 Dillon Lewis, 19 Aaron Shingler, 20 Ross Moriarty, 21 Tomos Williams, 22 Rhys Patchell, 23 Owen Watkin

Australia vs Wales H2H

Historically, Australia have dominated this contest, winning 30 of the 42 contests these nations have played. They had won 13 successive games against Wales until last November when the Dragons clinched a long-awaited 9-6 victory in Cardiff. In 12 of the last 13 clashes, there has been no more than nine points between the teams. This is the seventh Rugby World Cup with Australia winning five. The 2015 pool-stage clash at Twickenham ended with a 15-6 scoreline and no tries, and there were no tries last time out in Cardiff either.
