2000 Guineas Predictions: Expert Tips & Latest Odds

The first Classic of the British flat racing season will hit our screens this weekend. This year we should be in for a terrific race with strong English representation and a powerful Irish challenge.  It’ll be our first proper chance to see how the leading three-year-olds stack up against each other, although we’ve already witnessed the John and Thady Gosden trained Field Of Gold bolt up in the Craven Stakes to establish his position as the one to beat. Will the Kingman colt justify favoritism? Don't miss our 2000 Guineas predictions & best bets, including confirmed runners, horse by horse guide, latest odds and free bets from UK's top betting sites.

    2000 GUINEAS BETTING PREVIEW

FIELD OF GOLD is the odds-on favorite following his impressive course-and-distance success in the Craven Stakes when he produced an explosive turn of foot. The grey son of Kingman previously won the Solario Stakes and his only defeat in an eight-race career came in the Guineas.

RULING COURT, who cost €2.3 million when bought as a two-year-old last year,  warmed up for Newmarket with a dominant success in in the UAE’s Listed equivalent at Meydan in March. He has not been seen in the UK since finishing third to Derby favourite The Lion In Winter in the Acomb Stakes at York last summer.

Ballydoyle’s sole entrant EXPANDED is Aidan O’Brien’s main hope with Twain a non-runner. He suffered a neck defeat to Shadow Of Light in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket at the end of last term,  having won on debut in maiden at the Curragh just seven days earlier.

SHADOW OF LIGHT became only the fifth colt to land the Group 1 juvenile double of Middle Park and Dewhurst here at Newmarket last autumn. He suffered only one defeat as a juvenile, when beaten three-quarters-of-a-length by Cool Hoof Luke in the Gimcrack Stakes over 6f.

SCORTHY CHAMP won the National Stakes last September and the Curragh feature is a great guide for Irish-trained runners. He had previously been beaten by the same rival at the same venue in Group Two company. The Joseph O'Brien-trained colt drifted in the market after drawing stall one on Thursday.

Dark horses?GREEN IMPACT is a dual winner who claimed Group Two success over Delacroix on his latest start at the Irish Champions Festival last term. He hasn't done much wrong in three starts to date but will need to show further progression if he is to be a contendere here.

WIMBLEDON HAWKEYE recorded a Group Two success over this course-and-distance in the Royal Lodge Stakes and returned to the track with a solid effort when second to Field Of Gold. The James Owen-trained colt is more exposed than many of his rivals but has performed well in each appearance to date and could be a contender.

SEAGULLS ELEVEN was beaten a length by subsequent Listed winner Yaroogh on his Haydock debut in soft ground. He finished runner-up to Ancient Truth in the Group Two Superlative Stakes, beating WImbledon Hawkeye that day. He lined up in a Curragh Group One when third to Scorthy Champ, beaten only a length-and-a-half with Henri Matisse in second.

Saeed bin Suroor-trained TORNADO ALERT was successful over the straight mile in a Newcastle maiden in October. Prior to that he finished third on his debut at Lingfield.

YAH MO BE THERE was narrowly beaten on debut before failing to impress in the Coventry Stakes. He broke his maiden tag by claiming Listed honours at Newbury, beating Jungle Drums and Principality in the process. He was no match for Jonquil on reappearance earlier this month

BENEVENTO announced himself with an impressive victory in the Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster last September. Raphael Freire's star then trailed home fourth in the Horris Hill at Newbury, although he was drawn on stall one and the heavy fround. He boasts some strong juvenile form from last season and at 100/1 odds he looks overpriced.
