Tottenham v Middlesbrough betting preview

Tottenham have gone four matches without a win for the first time since the autumn of 2016

Tottenham suffered a 1-0 home loss at the hands of Liverpool last time out and have now won only one of their last six competitive matches, a 2-1 Boxing Day victory over Brighton. As to the FA Cup, the Lilywhites needed a Lucas Moura equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw in the initial tie at the Riverside Stadium. the Spurs have failed to keep a clean sheet in 13 of the last 14 outings. They are unbeaten in each of their last 40 FA Cup home matches against teams from a lower division. As to direct matches, Tottenham are unbeaten in their last six home meetings with Boro, winning five.

Jose Mourinho remains without Harry Kane, Tanguy Ndombele, Ben Davies, Hugo Lloris and Moussa Sissoko. The likes of Jan Vertonghen, Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso will be hopeful of a start if Mourinho decides to rotate his squad. Son Heung Min and Lucas Moura should retain ther starting berth up front, altough Erik Lamela provide a viable alternative. Danny Rose and Serge Aurier are likely to start as wing backs in a 3-5-2 system. 20-year-old defender impressed against runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool but is expected to start on bench.

Middlesbrough have suffered just one defeat in their last nine games

Middlesbrough have been enjoying some excellent form in the Championship recently. They sit 16th in the second tier but have won four of the last five unbeaten outings, including their last two away games 2-0 against Championship promotion hopefuls West Brom and Preston. They were within a whisker of making it five wins on the spin before conceding a last-minute equaliser to Derby at the weekend. Previously to the 1-1 draw in the original tie, Boro had kept three consecutive clean sheets and they now have a settled side that work hard for each other.

There are no fresh injury concerns for Jonathan Woodgate, who remains without Ryan Shotton, George Friend, Anfernee Dijksteel, Darren Randolph, Britt Assombalonga and Daniel Ayala. Man City loanee Patrick Roberts, who made his debut in the initial tie, is expected to start. Ashley Fletcher will lead the line, while Marcus Tavernier, George Saville and Lewis Wing are expected to complete the midfield. Djed Spence and Hayden Coulson should start as full backs in a five man backline. Patrick McNair, Dael Fry and Jonny Howson should play as centre backs.
