Sheffield UTD v Liverpool betting preview

Sheff UTD will be looking to make it two wins in a week over Merseyside clubs

Sheffield UTD enter this clash high on confidence, following their terrific 2-0 victory away to Everton last weekend. That result lifted the Blades in 7th position in the top flight, level on points with Tottenham, Man UTD and Chelsea. Home form remains a concern as Chris Wilder's men suffered a third Bramall Lane defeat this term against Sunderland in the Carabao Cup this week (but they player with a much-changed line-up). Prior to that, they lost to Southampton and Leicester in front of their own fans, The Blades have only failed to score in one of their six Premier League fixtures to date and boast the third best defensive record of the league with 5 goals conceded in 6 matches.

David McGoldrick is a major doubt for the Blades after missing the last two matches with a muscle injury. Olli McBurnie is the likeliest candidate to replace him as he was also handed a rest in the EFL Cup in midweek. Lys Mousset is putting pressure on Callum Robinson following his goal against Everton last Saturday.On-loan Everton midfielder Mo Besic returns to contention but defender Kean Bryan picked up a knock in midweek while Billy Sharp completes a three-match suspension this weekend. The likes of Kieron Freeman, Phil Jagielka, Luke Freeman, Ben Osborn and Ravel Morrison will likely be tussling for a place on the bench at best, then, following their 90-minute run-outs against the Black Cats in midweek.

Liverpool maintained their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League standings courtesy of their narrow win over Chelsea (1-2) at Stamford Bridge. The Reds have now won 15 top-flight games in a row, extending their own club record once again. They recorded a 2-0 victory at MK Dons in Carabao Cup on Wednesday, meaning that the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Napoli in Champions League remains their only slip so far this season. Jurgen Klopp's men have won each of their last 12 matches against newly-promoted teams, conceding only four goals in that time.

Klopp made the full 11 changes to his side for Wednesday's EFL Cup match in Milton Keynes, so we expect him to restore his regular starters. Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino are all expected to return to the starting lineup, while Sadio Mane should have recovered from the dead leg he suffered against Chelsea last weekend. James Milner is expected to recover from a back injury that he picked up in that midweek victory, although may well be among the substitutes regardless after his 90-minute run-out. Naby Keita made a welcome return with over an hour in midweek, but Divock Origi is a major doubt. Goalkeeper Alisson, Nathaniel Clyne and Xherdan Shaqiri are still sidelined.
