TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 14 BETTING PREVIEW
Stage 14 starts with 70km on the flat before the riders face 4,050 metres of vertical climbing. The day will end with a summit finish on the Pla d'Adet which is over 10 kilometers long at 8%. The climb’s steepest pitches come on its lower slopes, so we might see another audacious move from Pogacar and other GC contenders.
Prior to Pla d’Adet, the riders must conquer two other big Pyrenean summits, the iconic Col du Tourmalet followed by Hourquette d’Ancizan.
The Tourmalet is the most used climb in the Tour De France history. It is 18.9 kilometers long at a stable 7.4%. A constant climb, an effort of over 45 minutes in steep gradients.
The breakaway will probably start on this climb but we expect fireworks from the GC contenders. As a result, there should not be enough space for the attackers.
Stage 14 Favourites
Tadej Pogaçar enter this stage on the back of a "mid" performance on Wednesday, when he launched what initially looked a Tour-winning attack through the Massif Central but was caught by Vingegaard and lost the stage to the Dane. His heroics in winning May's Giro d'Italia might be catching up on him and Stage 12 defeat will have shaken his morale. The Slovenian has also lost to illness an important team-mate such as Juan Ayuso.
Defending champion Jonas Vingegaard enter this stage high on confidence, having defeated Pogacar in the Massif Centrale. He is getting stronger each day and his team gaining confidence.
With Slovenia’s Primož Roglic abandoning the Tour after his crash near the end of Stage 13, Remco Evenepoel looks the only rider that can trouble the Pogaçar-Vingegaard duo. He has not the pace to follow them when they go full gas, but the Belgian is smart and solid.
No other GC contenders look strong enough to win the stage, although the likes of Mikel Landa, Carlos Rodriguez and Felix Gall are well suited to this stage.
Other well classified ridered with virtually zero chance to win are Giulio Ciccone, Matteo Jorgenson, Egan Bernal, Derek Gee and Santiago Buitrago.
Any interesting long shot?
Many riders will hope to succeed through a breakaway.
Wout Poels is a strong climber who will be a contender for this stage. Ben Healy has been very active in the race so far and can't be ruled out.
David Gaudu will probably hit the front of the group on the lower slopes of the Tourmalet, hoping to be at least the first to the top.
Simon Yates, Romain Bardet, Richard Carapaz, Oscar Onley, Jai Hindley and Tom Pidcock are likely candidates to follow Gaudu.
Other long-shots options are Chris Harper, Frank Van Den Broek, Tobias Johannessn, Warren Barguil, Valentin Madouas, Oier Lazkano, Guillaume Martin and Javier Romo.
