Manchester City go into the 2023/24 Premier League season as champions but they face a frightening challenge from their fellow title hopefuls - Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester UTD, Tottenham, Newcastle and Chelsea above all.

How many teams get relegated?
The bottom three teams are relegated to Championship. Their spots are taken by the top two teams from the Football League Championship and a 3rd team that qualifies after winning the play-offs involving the 3rd-6th placed teams of the Football League Championship.
If any clubs finish with the same number of points, their position in the Premier League table is determined by goal difference, then the number of goals scored. If the teams still cannot be separated, they will be awarded the same position in the table.
Last season, the likes of Southampton, Leicester and Leeds United were relegated.

2022/23 Premier League Title Contenders
Bookies are predicting Manchester City (4/5) to retain their Premier League title. The Cityzens will look to secure a record fourth consecutive title. Last season Pep Guardiola's men became only the second English team to complete the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble. The club has been surprisingly quiet so far in terms of transfers, with Mateo Kovacic the only summer signing (the former Chelsea midfielder will replace Ilkay Gundogan in the roster).
Arsenal (5/1) were top of the table for most of the time last season, but finished 5 points shy of City at te end. The Gunners have invested heavily this summer, bringing Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber in North London. They will have more experience and quality for sure, but also a Champions League to play after a six year absence.
Liverpool (8/1) struggled last season and finished out of the Top 4 in Premier League. The reds added Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to their team, hoping their midfield issues from last time around are solved. With these important additions, Jurgen Klopp's men are the favourites to join Arsenal and Man City in the Top 4.
Manchester UTD (14/1) will start the second year of the Ten Hag's era and improvements are expected in all departments. Andrè Onana, Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount are the notable signins for the Red Devils this summer.
After crashing the top four race ahead of schedule last year, Newcastle (16/1) should be considered a genuine contender fot a Top 4 berth this season. The Magpies will play European football and have added depth to their squad, acquiring Harvey Barnes from Leicester and Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.
Ange Postecoglu's Tottenham (50/1) look a bit behind, expecially if they lose their skipper Harry Kane (you can read here our Harry Kane Next Club betting tips). The Spurs have purchased Gugliemo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, and Manor Solomon - good additions but not enough to turn the team in a title contender.
After a disastrous season, Chelsea (25/1) are likely to be the most improved team under new manager Mauricio Pochettino this term. The Blues splashed out £585.5 million on 16 new players across the summer transfer window 2022 and the January transfer window 2023 - since Todd Boehly completed his purchase of the club last year. Important players such as N'Golo Kantè, Kalidou Koulibaly, Cesar Azpilicueta, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz left the team, and a plethor of young talents joined the Blues: Christopher Nkunku, Jackson Martinez, and Levi Colwill above all. We believe the Blues will need a couple of years before joining the title race again.
Who has won the most Premier League titles?
Since the Premier League’s opening edition in 1992, Manchester United have won the most titles with 13 victories. They are followed by Man City on 7 wins and Chelsea on 5 wins.
In terms of the entire history of the English top-flight, Manchester United have also won most often, with 20 league titles to their name. Liverpool are a close second on 19, while Arsenal follow with 13 wins.
Recent Premier League winners:
- 2022-23: Manchester City
- 2021-22: Manchester City
- 2020-21: Manchester City
- 2019-20: Liverpool
- 2018-19: Manchester City
- 2017-18: Manchester City
- 2016-17: Chelsea
- 2015-16: Leicester City
- 2014-15: Chelsea
- 2013-14: Manchester City
- 2012-13: Manchester United
- 2011-12: Manchester City
2023/24 Premier League Relegation Candidates
A number of teams were lucky to stay in the Premier League last season and the likes of Leeds, Everton and Southampton will be battling relegation once again.
Newly promoted teams Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Fulham are favourites to go down however. We’d certainly back the Cherries to face the drop, while Leeds UTD and Southampton will also find it a struggle this season.
Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Newcastle are being tipped to do well, while Brentford could be worth a punt on relegation, as we all know how difficult is remaining up for the second straight year.
Everton are a value bet at 5/1 in our opinion, given the Toffees finished 16th last season and their best player Richarlison moved to Tottenham.
