EPSOM DERBY BETTING PREVIEWThe Derby is a Group 1 race, run over a mile-and-a-half and open to thoroughbred three-year-old colts and fillies. It is the most prestigious of the five classics and the middle leg of the Triple Crown, alongside the 2000 Guineas, in Newmarket, and the St Leger Stakes, in Yorkshire.
Normally a two-day festival, and raced on the first Saturday of June, this year the Derby is a month late, with just seven races scheduled for the day
ENGLISH KING has all the credentials to impose himself on this race. He went into the Lingfield Derby Trial race as just the winner of a Newcastle maiden on his final two-year-old start, and looked sensational when running out a ready winner of the Betsafe Derby Trial Stakes at Lingfield in early June.
KAMEKO developed into one of the best two-year-olds around last season, notably winning the Futurity Trophy at Newcastle on his final start. He enters the Derby on the back of his 2000 Guineas victory. The Guineas was his third win in five starts and second in Group 1 company after the Futurity Stakes at Newcastle.
RUSSIAN EMPEROR won the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot about three weeks ago. Eight days prior to that when second to Cormorant in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial. He has yet to tackle a mile but he has improved on every run and should be in the mix.
MOGUL finished around four lengths behind Kameko in the Futurity on his final start last season and looked in need of the run when fourth to Pyledriver in the King Edward VII Stakes at Ascot on his seasonal reappearance.

Dark horses?PYLEDRIVER won the Group 2 King Edward Stakes in impressive fashion at Royal Ascot, showing improved form and good pace. That day, he beat MOHICAN HEIGHTS who is a well-balanced three-year-old that will appreciate this stern test of stamina and holds valid claims.
HIGHLAND CHIEF returned to action in fine style at Royal Ascot when taking out a 1m2f soft-ground handicap off a mark of 101 in first-time cheek-pieces.
VATICAN CITY ran extremely well to finish second in the Irish 2,000 Guineas after being short of room and has a progressive profile.
KHALIFA SAT fought out the finish to the listed Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood, showing a good attitude to land the spoils. He remains an improving colt in his own right and potentially dangerous.
EMISSARY was a ready winner of his only two-year-old start at Wolverhampton, he arguably shaped best in going down by just a neck at Goodwood. He has the potential to cause an upset, at least for a podium finish.
