ULTIMA HANDICAP CHASE BETTING PREVIEWFormerly the Jewson's Novices Handicap Chase, the Ultima Handicap Chase was moved to the opening day card in 2011 after the introduction of the new Jewson Novices Chase to the DAY 3 racecard. The race itself is run over 3 miles at Cheltenham and there are 20 fences for the field to jump around the old course at Prestbury Park. It's a Grade 3 handicap chase, for horses aged five and upwards, where many of the top handicappers come together, producing a thrilling race. The prize fund is £110,000.
Many horses will arrive looking well handicapped making it very hard to predict the winner. Furthermore, some of the previous winners have carried big weights to victory.

Nick Williams' seven-year-old ONE FOR THE TEAM gives the impression that he’s an out-and-out stayer and he has taken to fences nicely. He could be one of the main contenders in this stamina test.
LIEUTENANT ROCCO impressed when winning at Ffos Las in February. All his form has been on soft ground though so drying weather leading up to the start of the meeting may not be ideal.
AYE RIGHT will have to defy his highest ever handicap mark here. However he's been running consistently all season including silver medal places in the Ladbrokes Trophy and the Skybet Chase.
REMASTERED is unbeaten in three novice chases but also entered in the Brown Advisory Chase and NH Challenge Novice Chase entered. His weight of 10-12 looks tempting

Dark Horses Nicky Henderson’s eight-year-old PYM could be a smart choice. He kicked off this season with a smart Listed victory over a 152-rated chaser in If The Cap Fits, before finishing fifth as the favourite in the Rehearsal Chase up at Newcastle.
CEPAGE ran a screamer when seventh in the Ultima at the Festival in 2020. He is well treated after a disappointing effort in December here, and is just the sort to bounce back to form with soft conditions to suit.
