Known as the Champion Chase for novices, the Arkle Trophy is one of the main races on day one of the Cheltenham Festival, boasting a prize fund of £130,000. This race has been won in the past by the likes of Moscow Flyer, Azertyuiop, Sizing Europe and Sprinter Sacre, all of whom went on to land the Champion Chase at subsequent Festivals. Put The Kettle On (16/1) trained by Henry De Bromhead and ridden by Aidan Coleman overcame Fakir D’oudairies in what was not a vintage Arkle fixture last year.

As with all other races on Day 1, the Arkle Novices' Chase is run left-handed on the Old Course at Cheltenham. It is open to novice chasers and is for five-year-olds and upwards.

Who will win the Arkle Chase 2021?We take a closer look at this year's Arkle Novices' Chase and try to determine which horse is likely to prevail.

SHISHKIN won the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at this Festival last spring and his only previous defeat over jumps has been inflicted by Envoi Allen Shishkin now has an unbeaten record over fences, having recently recorded two comfortable victories at Kempton by a combined 36 lengths. His jumping has been perfect thus far and iit will be a brave call to go against him in this race.

After a disappointing year over hurdles last season, ALLMANKIND was superb on his chasing debut at Warwick in November. He has won all three of his starts over fences including  the Planteur At Chapel Stud Henry VIII Novices’ Chase at Sandown.

Henry De Bromhead's CAPTAIN GUINNESS was unfortunate to be brought down in last year’s Supreme Novices' Hurdle. He has endured a mixed campaign over fences so far.

Gordon Elliott-trained eight-year old’s FELIX DESJI has also been very poor at jumping this campaign.

FRANCO DE PORT is another Grade 1 winner over fences having scored at Leopardstown at Christmas and his only defeat of the campaign came to Energumene, albeit by 10 lengths, at the Dublin Racing Festival.

Another Willie Mullins' contender is BLACKBOW, who looked impressive on chase debut at Navan before falling on his next start and then twice finishing in the places behind Energumene.

Dark horses?SKY PIRATE has found a new leash of life having won two handicaps at Cheltenham and Warwick. He finished behind Allmankind in the Kingmaker Novices' Chase at Warwick but has the potential to cause a major upset here.
