Newcastle started their 2023/24 Premier League campaign with a 5-1 thrashing of Aston Villa before they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against champions Manchester City at Etihad. St James’ Park has turned into something of a fortress under Eddie Howe ass they have only suffered one other home defeat since the start of 2022/23.
Liverpool survived an early scare and a controversial red card to pick up their first victory of the season against Bournemouth (3-1) last weekend, courtesy of goals scored by Luis Diaz, Mo Salah and Diogo Jota. The season opener saw the Reds earning a draw at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea (1-1).
As to direct encounters, Newcastle are winless in their last 13 Premier League games against the Reds (D4 L9) since a 2-0 home win in December 2015. The Magpies twice lost to Liverpool, who were the only team to get the better of Eddie Howe’s outfit home and away last term.

Up front, Alexander Isak will get the nod over Callum Wilson, and will be supported by Miguel Almiron and Aaron Gordon. No changes are expected at the back.

The visitors have Alexis Mac Allister available after his red card against Bournemouth was overturned but the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones and Ibrahima Konate are absent. Trent Alexander-Arnold is available after an injury worry and will sart in his hybryd RB/CM role. Dominic Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo will support a front trio formed by Mo Salah, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz. Darwin Nunez provides a further option in attack.
