Manchester City v Liverpool Betting Preview
Man City are currently holding just a one-point advantage over their visitors. The Cityzens went into the break with a chaotic 4-4 draw away at Chelsea and are dealing a number of injury problems. Anyway, Pep Guardiola's me look ubeatable at home - they have won all the matches played at the Etihad Stadium in 2023 and can equal Sunderland's long-standing record of 24 successive home wins.
Liverpool trail Man City by just one point. They have lost only once in the Premier League this term and a title challenge appears to be building following an impressive 3-0 victory over Brentford before the international break. Anyway, Jurgen Klopp’s side boasts a meagre record of just one win from five on the road and have not kept a Premier League clean sheet on their travels since May. The Reds haven't beaten City in the league at the Etihad since 2015.
Best Odds
Manchester City are favourites to grab all three points at home, with 4/5 with BetUK. Liverpool backers can get a quite high 18/5 with Unibet, with Betzone offering the best price on the draw (10/3).
Probable Line-Ups
Manchester City (3-2-4-1): Ederson; Walker, R. Dias, Gvardiol; Akanji, Rodri; Foden, Doku, Alvarez, B. Silva; Haaland
Pep Guardiola will be sweating over the fitness of star striker Erling Haaland after he suffered an ankle injury on international duty with Norway. Ederson and Nathan Ake missed their international duty but are expected to play here. John Stones didn’t make the England squad and may be out for a little longer, while Kevin De Bruyne is expected to return next month. Moreover, there are injury concerns over Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes and Sergio Gomez. Elsewhere Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku are in contention for a berth as left winger while Manuel Akanji is likely to partner Rodri in the middle of the park.
Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Jota, Gakpo
Liverpool will try to get their South American players back fit in time for this game. Alexis Mac Allister is back from suspension and could feature from the off while Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez are likely to be initially benched. This means that Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota will join Mo Salah in the front trio. In midfield, Dominic Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch are favorite over Wataru Endo. Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez could also return, while Kostas Tsimikas has calmed fears over his fitness. The visitors, anyway, are going to be without Andrew Robertson and Thiago Alcantara while Ibrahima Konate is expected to be fit.
Our Manchester City v Liverpool Predictions
Both sides head into this game in strong form, unbeaten in their last four Premier League games each, and City have not lost at home since November 2022.
In nine out of the last 11 meetings between these two clubs across all competitions, at least four goals have been scored in the game (4-1, 3-2, 2-3 and 2-2)
Haaland will probably receive the green light to terrorise a Reds defence without a top-flight clean sheet on the road this term, but we expect Liverpool to be extremely dangerous on counter-attacks and exploit all the defensive frailties Man City have shown against Chelsea.
City will probably score, they always do, but Liverpool’s defensive record is the joint-best in the division. The Reds might put down a serious title marker at the Etihad.
As a result, we expect a high-scoring game and we back the 2-2 as Correct Score.
