Manchester City v Chelsea Betting Preview
Man City have mathematically clinched their fifth Premier League title in the last six years since Arsenal lost at the hands of Nottingham Forest on Saturday's late kick-off. Pep Guardiola's men enter this clash on the back of a 4-0 dominant display against Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinal 2nd leg. Having qualified for the UCL final and with an FA Cup final to come, the Cityzens can achieve an historical treble.
Chelsea are playing for very little. They come into the game off the back of a 2-2 draw at home to Nottingham Forest. They sit 12th in the league standings, a remarkable 42 points behind leaders Man City, and have failed to win any of their last 14 league games against teams starting the day above them. The Blues can’t make it to Europe anymore despite a record-breaking transfer campaign this January.
Man City have won their last five meetings against the Blues. The two teams last met in January in the FA Cup, with Guardiola's side winning 4-0, one of five wins without reply the Citizens have recorded against the West Londoners since losing the 2021 Champions League final in Porto. The Sky Blues have defeated the London side three straight times in the league, all by 1-0 score lines.
The bookmakers have City as the favourites with 10Bet pricing them at 10/29 odds-on to win (odds are drifting after they have secured the title). A draw is 5/1 with VBet while a victory for Chelsea is currently 5/1 with BetVictor.
Manchester City (3-2-4-1): Ederson; Walker, Dias, Laporte; Stones, Rodri; Mahrez, Alvarez, Gundogan, Grealish; Haaland
Pep Guardiola is likely to go full-strength for their final home game of the season, despite having aleady secured the title. Erling Haaland will lead the line while Julian Alvarez is likely to feature from the off, supporting the Norwegian striker alongside Riyad Mahrez, Jack Grealish and Ilkay Gundogan, with Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva initially rested. John Stones and Rodri will anchor the midfield while Kyle Walker will start at the back since Nathan Akè is sidelined. Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte will retain their starting berth.
Chelsea (4-3-3): Mendy; Chalobah, Silva, Badiashile, Hall; Fernandez, Gallagher, Loftus-Cheek; Madueke, Felix, Sterling
Lewis Hall will likely continue at left-back since neither Ben Chilwell nor Marc Cucurella are fit. Kalidou Koulibaly is back in training but not yet ready to return, while Benoit Badiashile is injured. This means that Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana will join Thiago Silva in a three-man backline with Loftus-Cheek startins as right wing-back. With N'Golo Kantè expected to miss this clash, Conor Gallagher will partner Enzo Fernandez in the middle of the park. Up front, Raheem Sterling and Noni Madueke will probably start behind the lone striker Joao Felix (or Kai Havertz). Mykhailo Mudryk, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech provide further alternatives.
Our Manchester City v Chelsea Predictions
It's almost impossibile to look past Manchester City, particularly when they are playing a struggling Chelsea with plenty of missing players and a caretaker manager.
Even if Pep Guardiola decide to rotate his side, the Cityzens have enough quality to ease past Frank Lampard's men.
As a result, we expect a comfortable home win. We pick 3-0 as correct score, but the margin could be even wider should the Cityzens play at their best. Haaland is likely to cause big issue for Chelsea's shaky defence, while Ilkay Gundogan to have 1+ shots on target looks a smart bet.
