Manchester City v Manchester UTD Betting Preview
Manchester City enter this game six points clear of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League standings, but the Merseysiders still have a game in hand. After losing to Tottenham (2-3) on February 19, the Cityzens have responded with successive wins over Everton in the Premier League and Peterborough in the FA Cup. Prior to that loss to Spurs, Pep Guardiola's men were enjoying a seven match winning run at the Etihad. Furthermore, Man City cruised to a 2-0 win over United earlier in the season.
Manchester UTD are fresh off a 0-0 draw at home to the 19th-placed Watford. The Red Devils are fourth but just two points clear of West Ham and Arsenal. Prior to that, Ralf Rangnick's men recorded a 1-1 draw at Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 round. They are unbeaten in seven on the road, winning three and drawing four. In terms of direct encounters, the Red Devils have lost on just one of their precious seven visits to Manchester City in all competitions and they have won each of the last three encounters, including a 2-0 triumph in the Premier League last term.
Manchester City (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Laporte, Cancelo; Silva, Rodri, De Bruyne; Mahrez, Foden, Sterling
The loss of Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake to injury means that John Stones and Aymeric Laporte will start as centre backs, with Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo retaining their berth as full backs. Midweek breathers for Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva, Pep Guardiola's first-choice midfield three for quite some time now, were clearly made with one eye on the weekend. Up front, Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez look sure to feature from the off, while Raheem Sterling favorite over Jack Grealish for the remaiining berth.
Manchester United (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Varane, Shaw; Pogba, McTominay; Elanga, Fernandes, Sancho; Ronaldo
Edinson Cavani and Scott McTominay are expected to recover from their groin problem and illness respectively. The Scotsman should partner Paul Pogba in the middle of the park, while the former PSG striker could play at some stage during the second half. Cristiano Ronaldo will spearhead the attack, supported by an attacking midfield trio formed by Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga. At the back, Viktor Lindelof is likely to start alongside Raphael Varane, with Harry Maguire benched once again. Luke Shaw's favourite tag for the left-back spot hasn't changed after Alex Telles' disappointing display last weekend.
Our Manchester City v Manchester UTD Predictions
Barring the surprise loss to Tottenham few weeks ago, Manchester City have swept aside almost all who have come before them at the Etihad Stadium so far. As to Man UTD, they are still waiting for their first away Premier League clean sheet of 2022 and they are struggling up front, with Cristiano Ronaldo having scored just one goal since the start of 2022.
The Red Devils were completely outclassed back in November and there's no doubt that Manchester City are favourites once again. Anyway, we expect a narrow victory for the hosts. A 2-1 scoreline is our pick in the correct score market. As to goalscorers, we believe Riyad Mahrez could break the deadlock or score the deciding goal.
