Manchester City v Manchester UTD Betting Preview
Manchester City sit second in the Premier League table, one point shy of current league leaders Arsenal. The Sky Blues most recently beat Wolverhampton 3-0 on Sept. 17, scoring twice in the first 20 minutes. The Citizens have been dominant this season, losing points only away at Newcastle (3-3) and Aston Villa (1-1) and boasting, by far, the best score differential in the league, with 23 goals scored and just six conceded. Two players are particularly shining, as Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne are leading the charge with 11 goals and 6 assists respectively.
Manchester UTD currently sit five points behind of Man City, though Erik ten Hag's team have a game in hand after their match against Leeds United was postponed. They have overseen a dramatic upturn in fortunes at Old Trafford with four consecutive top-flight wins and now are fifth in the standings with 12 points picked up in six games. The Red Devils will be taking part in their first Premier League fixture for nearly a month this weekend. They were last on the pitch on Sept. 15 when they beat FC Sheriff 2-0 in the Europa League. Their most recent EPL fixture was a 3-1 victory against Arsenal, who are at the top of the table.
The Manchester derbies last season were ones to forget for United - beating 2-0 at home before a 4-1 thumping at the Etihad. Anyway, that was Pep Guardiola’s side sole victory in their last four home games against United across all competitions. The other three games were surprisingly won by United, all of them under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Manchester City (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Akanji, R. Dias, Cancelo; B. Silva, Rodri, De Bruyne; Foden, Haaland, Grealish
John Stones will be missing for the next two weeks after picking up an injury while on international duty with England, meaning that Manuel Akanji will partner Ruben Dias as centre-back. Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo will retain their berth as full backs, as well Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne in the middie of the park. Up front, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish are favorite over Julian Alvarez and Riyad Mahrez to flank Erling Haaland.
Manchester United (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Malacia; Casemiro, Eriksen; Antony, Fernandes, Sancho; Rashford
Marcus Rashford did not feature in United’s latest Europa League game but is still expected to recover from the injury he sustained against Arsenal. The likes of Antony, Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho are expected to start as offensive midfielders while Casemiro and Christian Eriksen will anchor the midfield. Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to come off the bench while Anthony Martial’s fitness is uncertain. At the back, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez will be likely flanked by Tyrell Malacia and Diogo Dalot.
Our Manchester City v Manchester UTD Predictions
Manchester UTD have somewhat shaken off a dismal start, though their showings in the Europa League have been underwhelming. Manchester City are aiming for a 10th successive home win in all competitions. Moreover, all seven of their last top-flight wins at home have been accompanied by at least three goals.
As a result, we back Man City to win and score at least three goals. The correct score could be a 3-1 City win while Erling Haaland is our pick in the anytime goalscorer market.
