Liverpool v Arsenal Betting Preview
Liverpool were crowned Premier League champions in front of their fans two weeks ago they thrashed Tottenham 5-1. Arne Slot's men will be looking to bounce back from defeat away to Chelsea (3-1) last weekend. Despite that, the Merseysiders enter this game a massive 15 pints ahead of Arsenal.
Arsenal head to Merseyside after suffering a Champions League semi-final exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain. After losing the first leg at Emirates (0-1), the Gunners suffered a 2-1 loss at Parc Des Princes last Wednesday. Domestically, Mikel Arteta's men sit 2nd in the Premier League standings. They lost 2-1 at home to Bournemouth last time out and had also drawn 2-2 against Crystal Palace in the game before that. After recording just one victory in the last five games, the Gunners could mathematically finish as low as seventh. With three games left, Arsenal have a 6 points gap over 6th placed Nottingham Forest.
These two teams shared a 2-2 draw at Emirates Stadium in October. Bukayo Saka and Mikel Merino twice gave the Gunners the lead, with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah coming up with the equalisers. Arsenal are on a five-match unbeaten run against Liverpool (W2 D3) but they have not won at Anfield since 2012.
Probable Line-ups
Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Diaz, Gakpo.
Liverpool’s only injury concern remains Joe Gomez, who has been sidelined since February. Right-back Conor Bradley will start the match, replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold who has announced he will leave the club on a free transfer next summer. Regular midfielders Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Alex Mac Allister are all set to start, having been rested last week. At the back, Ibrahima Konate will replace Jarell Quansah and partner Virgil Van Dijk as usual.
Arsenal (4-3-3): Raya; White, Saliba, Kiwior, Calafiori; Partey, Odegaard, Rice; Saka, Trossard, Martinelli.
Italian duo Jorginho and Riccardo Calafiori have returned to the match day squad following an injury but the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kai Havertz all remain sidelined for the visitors. Mikel Arteta may choose to tinker with his side on Sunday after a draining encounter at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday. As a result Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelly could make room for Leandro Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri.
Best Odds
Liverpool are favourites here - at 23/20 with Bet365 (or 2.21 on non-UK bookies) - to make home advantage count. The draw is backable at 13/5 (3.60) while Arsenal to win is priced at 37/15 (3.46).
Liverpool v Arsenal Predictions
Liverpool will aim to bounce back from their defeat at Chelsea last week and will likely return to a lineup much closer to what is perceived as their best starting XI
Mo Salah needs two goals and two assists to complete a landmark double of 30 goals and 20 assists in the Premier League this season. All his team-mates will surely help him achieving this feat.
Arsenal have struggled in the Premier League of late, probably because they were fully focused on their Champions League campaign.
They are unbeaten in 19 games against the "Big Six" in the Premier League since the start of the 2023-24 season, winning 11 and drawing 8 of those matches.
Anyway, fatigue will be a key factor as well as Liverpool's willing to win their first outing as champions in front of their own fans.
Hence, we back Liverpool to win 2-1 and Mo Salah to score or assist.
Ben White to commit 1+ fouls and Thomas Partey to have 3+ tackles are our additional recommended bets.
