Palmeiras qualified for the last eight with a 1-0 win over fellow Brazilian outfit Botafogo in extra time, courtesy of a goal scored by Paulinho. Chelsea booked their place in the last-eight by beating Benfica in extra time at the round of 16 stage. When the match resumed with few minutes to play, the Portuguese club scored the equalizer but the Blues netted three goals in extra time to win 4-1 after Gianluca Prestianni was sent off. Enzo Maresca's men have been already beaten by Brazilian opposition in this tournament, suffering a shocking 3-1 defeat at the hands of Flamengo. In the other two group stage matches, Chelsea have beaten 2-0 Los Angeles FC in the opening match and 3-0 Esperance Tunis.

The Brazilians will be without Gustavo Gomez after he was sent-off for two bookable offences last time out.
