Liverpool vs Rangers Betting Preview
Liverpool are clearly struggling. They sit ninth in the Premier League following their 3-3 home draw against Brighton over the weekend. The result leaves the Jurgen Klopp’s side already 11 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal, albeit with a game in hand. The Merseysiders have now drawn four of their seven top-flight games. Injury problems have played their part but the Reds have looked uncharacteristically shaky in defence. In Champions League, Jurgen Klopp's men have collected three points from two matches, having recovered from their opening day defeat to Napoli (4-1) by beating Ajax (2-1 at Anfield) in the second game.
Rangers head to Anfield aiming for a third straight win, having defeated Dundee United and Hearts. They sit second in the Scottish Premier League, two points behind Celtic, with a W6 D1 L1 seasonal record. The Gers have lost both their Champions League group stage matches thus far. They were hammered at Amsterdam by Ajax (4-0) and lost 3-0 at home at the hands of Napoli. Giovanni Van Bronckhorst's men also lost 4-0 at Old Firm rivals Celtic at the start of September, so they seem to struggle against quality sides.
Best Odds
Unsurprisingly, Liverpool are huge favourites to emerge victorious from the encounter at Anfield, with STS Sportsbook offering them at 1/5, with Rangers 18/1 to come away with the victory with Unibet. A draw is priced at 8/1 with PariMatch.
Probable Line-Ups
Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Elliott, Henderson, Thiago; Salah, Jota, DiazKostas Tsimikas is likely to deputise at left-back once more, as Andrew Robertson is out due to a knee injury. The Scot has joined Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Ibrahima Konate and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the treatment room. Luis Diaz came off the bench against Brighton and is expected to lead the line, alongside Diogo Jota and Mo Salah. Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nunez provide further options. In midfield, Harvey Elliott should feature from the off alongside Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara.
Rangers (4-3-3): McGregor; Tavernier, Goldson, Davies, Barisic; Lundstram, Davis, Jack; Tillman, Morelos, Kent
Rangers will be without suspended American James Sands who was sent off against Napoli. As a result, ex-Liverpool defender Ben Davies could accompany Connor Goldson at centre-back. Up front, Antonio-Mirko Colak is in contention with Alfredo Morelos for the central striker berth, while Ryan Kent and Malik Tillman should start as offensive wingers. The likes of John Lundstram, Steven Davis and Ryan Jack will anchor the midfield. Experienced goalkeeper Allan McGregor will start between the posts. The likes of Tom Lawrence, Ianis Hagi, Kemar Roofe, Filip Helander, John Souttar, and Jon McLaughlin remain sidelined.
Liverpool vs Rangers Betting Tips
It promises to be a cracking atmosphere under the lights at Anfield ahead of the return fixture at Ibrox next week.
In our opinion, Liverpool should be able to cut loose against Rangers. The visitors have failed to score in Europe so far but coul find the back of the net at Anfield. The Reds' biggest issue is in defence having kept just two clean sheets in 10 matches.
Despite that, we expect a comfortable victory for Jurgen Klopp's men, and we back Liverpool to win 3-1 in the Correct Score market.
Luis Diaz is our pick in the Anytime Goalscorer market.
