Anthony Joshua vs Robert Helenius Betting Preview

Anthony Joshua was disappointingly low key when beating Jermaine Franklin at the O2 Arena earlier this year, a victory that improved his professional record to 25-3. It was his first fight under new trainer Derrick James and after back to back defeats at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk. AJ has arguably never been the same since the shocking defeat to Andy Ruiz in 2019 despite winning the rematch on points.

Robert Helenius has stepped in as Joshua's opponent for the fight, with Dillian Whyte having withdrawn from the contest just seven days before it was due to take place. The Finn last fought on Saturday against fellow Finnish boxer Mika Mielonen, stopping his opponent in the third round. He is still a credible opponent with a 32-4 professional record, but has suffered defeats at the hands of Whyte (on points back in 2017), Gerald Washington and, in his most recent fight, Deontay Wilder - a first round KO defeat in New York in October last year.

Anthony Joshua v Robert Helenius: Who is the favorite?

Both established and new betting sites have installed Joshua as heavy favourite. AJ is best priced at just 1/14 with Coral to win this fight, while Helenius is priced 10/1 with Bet365. The draw is backable at 33/1 with SpreadEx.

Joshua vs Helenius Predictions

A late change of opponent is never easy for a fighter to deal with. Joshua has bad memories as he suffered the most shocking defeat against Andy Ruiz Jr - a late replacement - four years ago in New York.

Anyway, it would be a major shock if Joshua failed to win this one in anything other than convincing fashion. AJ will be keenly aware of the ease with which Deontay Wilder - probably his next opponent - put Helenius to the sword and he will aim to display his credentials by securing a similar outcome.

As a result, we back Joshua to win in early rounds even if you have to go all the way back to 2016 to find the last time the Brit won a fight inside three rounds.

The Joshua-Whyte fight was scrapped last week with a full investigation underway over ‘adverse findings’ in Whyte’s voluntary drug’s test. Whyte, whose test was part of random anti-doping protocol, is adamant there is no wrongdoing and said he will clear his name.
