Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois Preview
Anthony Joshua held the IBF heavyweight title from 2016 to June 2019, when he suffered a shock loss to Ruiz Jr. He then won the belt back in a rematch later the same year, before suffering a couple of defeats via unanimous decision to Oleksandr Usyk in September of 2021. AJ has picked up four victories since his back-to-back defeats to Usyk and his last three wins have all come inside the distance. After beating Jermaine Franklin via unanimous decision (in a poor performance by AJ), he knocked out a 39-year-old Robert Helenius, dominated Otto Wallin in a five-round beatdown and iced UFC legend Francis Ngannou inside two rounds.
Daniel Dubois (21-2, 20 KOs) will be looking to retain the IBF heavyweight belt in his first defence. He stopped Filip Hrgovic to win the interim belt, and the 26-year-old has now been upgraded to regular champion following Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to vacate his title to allow the rematch against Tyson Fury to happen. 'DDD' is a former British, European and Commonwealth champion. He suffered a first career loss to Joe Joyce in 2020, but responded with five successive wins. He then was stopped by Oleksandr Usyk in a controversial fight as he delivered a knockdown that potentially would have been a KO judged to be a low blow. Subsequently, Dubois beat Jarrell Miller in his first outing after that defeat.
Breaking down the odds: Who is favored?
Anthony Joshua is the red hot favourite according to estabilished and new betting sites. AJ is backable at 2/7 with StarSports.
Dubois is priced at 7/2 with Betfair despite a good performance against a heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk last year. The draw is backable at 25/1 with ThePools.
An early finish is expected as the fight to go the full distance is priced at 4/1 and not to go the distance is 2/9, with Joshua 1/2 to win by KO, TKO or disqualification. Dubois 5/1 to pick up a stoppage win.
Joshua v Ngannou Tale Of The Tape
At 198 cm (6ft 6in), Anthony Joshua is the taller of the two; Daniel Dubois is 196 cm (6ft 5in). In addition to being the taller fighter, with a reach of 208cm (82″) AJ also boasts a reach advantage over Dubois, who has a reach of 198cm (78″).Joshua v Dubois Betting Tips - Who wins and how?
Anthony Joshua recently linked up with Ben Davison, the coach who first found fame when he helped Tyson Fury mount an unlikely comeback in 2018. Since then, the 2012 Olympic gold medalist has shown vast improvements in all departments since working with the new trainer, from mobility to stamina, from precision to defensive movements.
Daniel Dubois completely lacks defensive skills as shown against Filip Hrgovic. Anyway, "Dynamite" will certainly be no pushover, as he possesses devastating power and Joshua's chin is always a question mark.
There are rumours that nearly knocked Anthony Joshua out years ago, during a sparring session with 18oz gloves and headguards.
AJ's superior experience in world title fights and ability to adapt make him the favorite but with so much power in both fighters, anything can happen.
We expect Joshua to be very cautious in early rounds, but then there could be fireworks.
Joshua to win by KO in rounds 7-9 looks the most likely outcome but we would not be surprised if both fighters get knocked down.
