Manchester UTD vs Reading betting preview
Manchester UTD have racked up the wins with four from four games under Ole Gunnar SolskjaerMan UTD enter this clash on the back of four Premier League victories over Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town, Bournemouth and Newcastle. They kept their third clean sheet of the season against the Magpies (2-0) on Wednesday night. They are now just three points behind Arsenal in fifth and six off fourth-placed Chelsea. As to direct encounters, Manchester United are unbeaten in their 10 previous home matches against Reading. The Red Devils also faced the Royals in the third round in 2016/17 and ran out 4-0 winners
Solskjaer may shuffle his pack on the back of the busy festive period. Defender Eric Bailly is serving the second part of a three-match suspension. As a result, Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones will start at the heart of the back, with Diogo Dalot and Matteo Darmian favourites for the full backs spots. Up front, Alexis Sanchez could be set for his first start since November, supporting the central striker Romelu Lukaku alongside Mason Greenwood. The likes of Marouane Fellaini, Andreas Pereira and Fred will anchor the midfield while Sergio Romero is set to replace David De Gea between the posts. Chris Smalling are Marcos Rojo sidelined, Paul Pogba should be rested.
Reading have failed to win any of their last 10 matchesReading are struggling in the Championship and are currently 23rd in the table, five points from safety, after managing just four wins from 26 matches. In their latest match on Tuesday, the Royals fell apart at home to Swansea, shipping three first-half goals and eventually losing 4-1. Their only away triumph this term came at Deepdale against Preston North End back in September. Since then they have drawn 5 and lost 5 of their 10 competitive outings.
Manager Josè Gomes may prioritise the scrap for survival in the Championship over a potential FA Cup giant-killing. Hence, he is expected to rest a few regulars. Top-scorer Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is in contention with Yakou Meite for the lone striker berth while Modou Barrow, John Swift and Garath McCleary are expected to form the offensive midfield trio. In defense, Gomes could welcome back defenders Chris Gunter and Liam Moore. Former United defender John O'Shea could feature against his old club, but fellow alumnus Tyler Blackett remains sidelined through suspension. Leandro Bacuna is also missing out through suspension.
