Man UTD are already 15 points behind Liverpool after only eight league games

Manchester UTD enter this clash on the back of a a dreadful 1-0 defeat against Newcastle last time out, a result that pushed them down to 12th in the Premier League table. The Red Devils have won just two of their opening eight league League games, and three of their last six have ended in defeat. As to direct encounters, United are surprisingly unbeaten in their last six home matches against Liverpool (W3, D3). This fixture last season ended in a goalless draw at Old Trafford last February.

With David De Gea out injured, Sergio Romero will be poised to deputise between the posts against Liverpool. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed Paul Pogba will be out of Sunday's match but expressed hope that Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Anthony Martial would return. Luke Shaw will also require late fitness test, with Ashley Young or Axel Tuanzebe ready to deputise at left-back. Andreas Pereira, Juan Mata, Daniel James and Marcus Rashford may be the default front four if Lingard, Martial and Greenwood are not ready to start. Phil Jones, Jesse Lingard, Eric Bailly, Diogo Dalot and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are all sidelined for the Red Devils.

Liverpool have raced into an astonishing eight-point lead after just eight matches, winning every Premier League match this season to go. The Reds have strechted their winning run in the top-flight to 18 matches (all-time record). Not that their performances have always been great. Their last victory, 2-1 over Leicester, was a laboured one with the winner coming courtesy of an injury-time penalty. Jurgen Klopp's main concern reamins the defense - the Reds' usually formidable back line have conceded in six of their eight league games this season. Also in Champions League, they conceded 5 goals in 2 outings (2 against Napoli and 3 against RB Salzburg).

Both Mo Salah and Alisson Becker are expected to be fit and raring to go for the trip to Manchester. Plus, Joel Matip has declared himself fit to play, meaning that he can replace Joe Gomez and flank Virgil Van Dijk at the hearth of the back. Divock Origi and Xhedan Shaqiri are the offensive options, should Salah miss out. The likes of James Milner, Naby Keita, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all options in the centre of the park but Klopp has favoured a midfield three of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum in 'big games'
