Liverpool v Newcastle betting preview
Liverpool are undefeated in their last 40 home matches in Premier LeagueLiverpool are enjoying a club-record 13 consecutive league wins, taking into account last season. Jurgen Klopp's men were far by convincing in their victories over Norwich and Southampton, but looked back up to full speed when beating Arsenal 3-1 at home and then Burnley 3-0 away. As to direct encounters, the Merseysiders are unbeaten in their last 23 league and cup matches against Newcastle at Anfield and have won 11 of their last 13 home matches against Newcastle in all competitions. The two fixtures last season provided more than four goals on each occasion, with Liverpool winning 4-0 at Anfield and 3-2 up on Tyneside thanks to a late Divock Origi header.
The Reds are still without first-choice keeper Alisson, who continues to recover from a calf injury. Naby Keita is still sidelined as well as Nathaniel CLyne, who is not expected to return until next year, having ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament. As a result, Klopp could be tempted to name the same XI that started the win over Burnley at Turf Moor, with the likes of Sadio Manè, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino up front. In the engine room, Jordan Henderson should be flanked by Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum. Players such as Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are expected to play at some stage.
Newcastle are winless in the last 23 league matches (0-4-19) at AnfieldNewcastle started their season in disappointing fashion, losing at home to Arsenal and away to Norwich. They have already been eliminated from the Carabao Cup, on penalties by Leicester. Anyway, their only success of the season so far came in a shock 1-0 triumph away to Tottenham. Last time out, the Magpies shared the spoils with Watford at St. James' Park (1-1). They have conceded more than one goal in only one of their five games so far but the lack of goals - a problem that has plagued Newcastle from former coach Rafa Benitez to current boss Steve Bruce - continues to vex Newcastle, whose three goals are joint second-worst in the Premier League.
Newcastle have a several players missing through injuries. Dwight Gayle and DeAndre Yedlin are the closest to returning for the Magpies, but the trip to Anfield comes too soon for the pair. Fellow frontman Andy Carroll has not played since February and underwent ankle surgery earlier this year, although the former England targetman has returned to light training. Defender Florian Lejeune, midfielder Jack Colback, wingers Allan Saint-Maximin and Matt Ritchie are all out. Brazilian striker Joelington in expected to spearhead the attack, with Miguel Almiron and Christian Atsu playing out wide. Twenty-one-year-old midfielder Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden are likely to start in the middle of the park.
