50/1 Might Bite to win
2018 KING GEORGE VI CHASE BETTING PREVIEWMight Bite, who was of course triumphant in this 12 months ago, heads the market despite an under par return to action in the Betfair Chase at Haydock. Not looking as straight as anticipated and lacking his usual flamboyance, he finished tired and last of the five runners. Concerned by the display, his trainer sent him to train with jumping expert Yogi Breisner. Will it be enough?
Waiting Patiently remains unbeaten over fences after six starts. There have been some low class wins in this time but there was nothing low class about his Ascot Chase success in February when he held Cue Card at bay. The only real concern is if Waiting Patiently can see out the extra three furlongs he will encounter at Kempton for the first time in his career.
Politologue is a very high-class performer who continues to improve, battling gamely to beat Min on his final start of last season as he won two Grade 1 races in the form of the Tingle Creek at Sandown and the Melling Chase at Aintree. He was outgunned twice by Altior at Newbury and Cheltenham but made a winning reappearance in the Grade 2 1965 Chase at Ascot last time, beating Charbel by half a length
Bristol De Mai aims to maintain his bid for the National Hunt Triple Crown by following up here. He passed the winning post four lengths ahead of Native River in Haydock’s Betfair Chase last month. Kempton’s flat track should suit him in theory
Native River also made his reappearance at Haydock last month. His run was far more pleasing, finishing second under conditions that didn’t place enough emphasis on stamina. He therefore has something to prove here, but is likely to have ideal conditions here.
Thistlecrack, the other former winner, won this race as a novice in imperious fashion back in 2016. He was seen only twice in 2017/18 and running below his best on both occasions. He made an encouraging comeback from 11 months off when third at Haydock last time, but concerns about his form remain.
Clan des Obeaux was highly progressive last term, and put in a good effort to finish fourth in the Betfair Chase on reappearance last month.
Coneygree, a former Gold Cup winner, pulled up in his only two starts last year but he showed signs of life last month at Cheltenham, finishing a credible 3rd.
Shattered Love finished runner-up both starts this season, including when beaten one and a half lengths by Min in the Grade 1 John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown last time out.
Double Shuffle finished runner up last season but this year's renewal looks stronger than ever.
Tea For Two reappered this season after a breathing operation and finished 12 lengths third to Charbel in the Peterborough Chase.
