Fulham v Liverpool betting preview

An immediate return to the Championship is beginning to look like an inevitability for Fulham

Fulham have suffered 10 defeats from 11 fixtures across all competitions since the turn of the year, including the two losses under new interim manager Scott Parker. Their rapid descent towards Premier League relegation continued last weekend as they lost 3-1 at the hands of Leicester. The Londoners have managed just two clean sheets in all competitions thus far this season. Furthermore, the Cottagers have conceded at least twice in all 11 outings and have lost 4 of the last 5 matches by at least two clear goals. Only two teams in Premier League history heve shipped more goals than their 68 at this stage of a season. Realistically Fulham will need to win at least six of their final eight games to stand any chance of staying up.

Andre Schurrle has returned to training and could come back into contention for the visit of Liverpool, but Alfie Mawson and Marcus Bettinelli (knee) remain out. Jean Seri has not started either of Scott Parker's first two league matches in charge of Fulham and may miss out again here. It means that Calum Chambers will partner Kevin McDonald in the middle of the park. Up front, Aleksandr Mitrovic is likely to be supported by Ryan Sessegnon, Tom Cairney and Ryan Babel. Luciano Vietto is an alternative in attack. In defense, Maxime Le Marchand will be the likely beneficiary if Tim Ream or Havard Nordtveit are benched while Cyrus Christie could challenge the suspect-looking Denis Odoi at right-back.

Liverpool enter this clash on the back of their superb win over Bayern Munich (1-3) in the midweek Champions League. The Reds fell 4 points behind Man City last weekend with a draw at Everton, but responded with a fine 4-2 win against Burnley to narrow the gap at the top to a single point. Their away form in Premier League don't look so impressive - the Reds have drawn their last three league away games, failing to score more than once in any of them and drawing blanks in each of the last two, away to Man UTD and Everton. Anyway, with Man City playing in the FA Cup this weekend, Jurgen Klopp's side have a very good chance to reclaim top spot in the Premier League here. As to direct encounters, The Reds have won their last 5 matches against Fulham in all competitions, including a 2-0 victory at Anfield Road earlier this season.

Jurgen Klopp may be tempted to shuffle his pack. Dejan Lovren has only been deemed fit enough for the bench in Liverpool's last two matches and could rotate into the starting XI. Joe Gomez remains out for the visitors, while Jordan Henderson twisted his ankle against Bayern and Naby Keita faces a race to be fit after missing out in midweek. Adam Lallana should get a second consecutive league start as a result of Henderson and Keita's expected absences. No changes are expected upfront, with Sadio Manè, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino spearheading the attack.
