Croatia vs Italy Betting Preview
Croatia have been a bit of a disappointment in the group so far. Defeated 3-0 by Spain in the first match, the Croatian national team only managed a 2-2 draw against Albania last time out. In order to qualify, the Blazers must absolutely beat Italy: in this way they will be level on points (4) with the Azzurri but would be ahead due to the head-to-head rule. At the same time, however, the Croatians will have to hope that Albania do not beat Spain: in this case, they would have to see the goal difference (currently favorable to the Albanians) to decree the runners-up of the group. With the success of Albania and Croatia, of course, the Azzurri would be eliminated, finishing bottom with 3 points.
Italy, in fact, are coming off a disastrous performance against Spain, which they lost only 1-0 thanks to Donnarumma's super saves. Thanks to a 2-1 win against Albania in the opening game, however, a draw would be enough for the Azzurri to progress as group runners-up. It will certainly not be enough to play as they did against the Spaniards: Luciano Spalletti's men finished the game with 43% possession, only one shot on goal (compared to the opponents' nine) and only 4 shots attempted (against Spain's 20 attempts). In case of defeat, it will be necessary to see the result of the other group B match Spain vs Albania and then make the various counts to establish the 'best four third-placed teams' among the six groups of the European Championships.
Croatia have a good record against the Azzurri. In fact, there have been nine previous meetings between Italy and Croatia and the balance is in favour of the Blazers with 3 wins, 5 draws and only one defeat.
Best Odds & Enhanced Prices
Italy are 10/7 with VBet to win on Monday, with Croatia priced at 12/5 with BetMGM to come away with the victory. A draw is priced at 9/4 with Ladbrokes.Probable Line-Ups
Croatia (4-2-3-1): Livakovic; Stanisic, Sutalo, Pongracic, Gvardiol; Kovacic, Modric; Mario Pasalic, Sucic, Kramaric; Petkovic.Croatian coach Zlatko Dalic is expected to rely on a very technical starting eleven. In midfield, former Inter Milan man Marcelo Brozovic should be left out, with the Mateo Kovacic-Luka Modric duo in charge. The central striker will be Bruno Petkovic, with a trio of Mario Pasalic from Atalanta plus ANdrej Kramaric and the youngster Luka Socic behind him. No changes are expected in defence where, in front of goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, the likes of Bosko Sutalo and Marin Pongracic will form the centre-back pair, with Josip Stanisic and Josko Gvardiol on the wings. Ivan Perisic provides an additional starting option, both as a full-back and as an attacking winger..
Italy (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma, Di Lorenzo, Calafiori, Bastoni, Darmian; Fagioli, Barella; Chiesa, Frattesi, Pellegrini; Retegui.
Italian coach Luciano Spalletti will make some changes to his starting eleven. First of all, Riccardo Calafiori will be diverted to the left to replace Federico Dimarco, who is struggling with a calf problem. In the centre of defence, therefore, there will be Gianluca Mancini next to Alessandro Bastoni, while Matteo Darmian should replace Giovanni Di Lorenzo (who appeared in physical and psychological difficulty against Spain) on the right. In midfield, Nicolò Fagioli is a candidate for a starting berth alongside Nicolò Barella, meaning that Jorginho will be benched. The three attacking midfielders - Davide Frattesi, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Federico Chiesa - will retain their starting berth behind the striker who, however, should be Mateo Retegui and not Gianluca Scamacca.
Croatia v Italy Predictions
With two out of three results in favour, one might expect a speculative attitude from Italy. However, Luciano Spalletti has stated several times that he wants to impose his game so we expect a more proactive attitude from the Azzurri and, consequently, a very open game.
Looking at Croatia, they surely have more quality and experience than the Italian national team. From a physical point of view, Italy could have the edge over their opponents, given that some important Croatian players are at the end of their careers, but the general physical condition of the Azzuri has seemed poor since the pre-tournament friendlies.
For these reasons, we expect a tough game and probably a stalemate.
We back the 1-1 draw, a result that would send Italy into the round of 16 as the second-placed in the group.
Also watch out for the Both Teams To Score option and Andrej Kramaric as player with at least one shot on target.
