Chelsea vs Tottenham betting preview

Chelsea have lost two of their last three matches

Chelsea enter this match on the back of a woeful performance in Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Arsenal which brought a furious reaction from manager Maurizio Sarri. The West Londoners have not scored more than two times against Premier League opposition since October 28 and the team's style of play is being criticised by the club's supporters. Seven of Chelsea's last nine games in all competitions have featured fewer than three goals. As to direct encounters, the Blues have won just four of the last 11 contests against the Spurs during a period stretching back to the start of 2015.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is the only absentee for Maurizio Sarri. The Italian manager may be tempted to give Callum Hudson-Odoi a starting berth in the front trio, alongside Eden Hazard and Willian. New arrival Gonzalo Higuain (on loan from Juventus) was not signed in time for the noon deadline while Olivier Giroud will play should the Blues need a goal. Previous great striker hope Álvaro Morata is basically gone, and is Victor Moses, though neither were likely to feature to begin with. In midfield, Mateo Kovacic is expected to keep his place ahead of Ross Barkley. In defense, Antonio Rudiger could be joined by Andreas Christensen at teh centre, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso retaining their full back berths.

Tottenham have won their last three meetings with Chelsea

Tottenham head to Stamford Bridge with a 1-0 advantage, secured thanks to Harry Kane's Wembley penalty two weeks ago. Despite a long list of absences, they will be buoyed by their fantastic recent run of 8 wins in 10 games, including a 2-1 victory at Fulham last weekend. Mauricio Pochettino's men  will believe that a clean sheet can be recorded at Stamford Bridge as they have conceded just five goals in seven matches, three of which came in the December capitulation against Wolves. The Spurs have beaten Chelsea on each of their last 3 meetings with them, scoring 7 times and conceding just once in the process.

Dele Alli suffered a hamstring injury last time out and has joined Victor Wanyama, Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko on the sidelines. South Korean striker Son Heung Min is on international duty (Asian Cup) meaning that Fernando Llorente is the only available forward. The Spaniard should be supported by Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Christian Eriksen as offensive midfielders, altough Lucas Moura is now 100% fit and Erik Lamela is pushing for a start. Eric Dier is ready to return to the starting XI after coming on as a substitute at the weekend, anchoring the midfield in a 3-4-2-1 starting system. Paulo Gazzaniga is expected to replace Hugo Lloris between the posts.
