Chelsea vs Manchester UTD betting preview

Chelsea have now won each of their last seven in all competitions

After winning just two of their opening eight matches this season, Chelsea are chasing an eighth straight win. The impressive run has lifted the Blues into the top four of the Premier League and to the top of their Champions League group. Christian Pulisic was the hero last weekend, inspiring them to a 4-2 victory at Burnley with a remarkable hat-trick. In the previous EFL Cup round, Chelsea hammered Grimsby Town 7:1 - a result which kicked off their winning streak. This is the sixth League Cup match between these clubs, Manchester United previously having won two and Chelsea one with two draws

The likes Antonio Rudiger, Ngolo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have been ruled out. Andreas Christensen and Ross Barkley are doubts. This leaves Frank Lampard with little choice but to stick with Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori at centre-back. 18year-old Billy Gilmour is expected to partner Jorginho in the middle of the park in a 4-2-3-1 starting system. Michy Batshuayi is contention with Olivier Giroud for the lone forward berth while the likes of Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Pedro are among the players who will be hopeful of a run-out. Willy Caballero should start between the sticks.

Man UTD are unbeaten in the last 4 meetings with Chelsea and beat them 4-0 on the EPL opening day

Despite a well-deserved victory over Norwich (1-3 at Carrow Road) last weekend, Manchester United are struggling at the moment to show any kind of form in the league. The Red Devils are languishing in 7th position in the Premier League table, already 15 points behind league leaders Liverpool and 7 behind 4th placed Chelsea. They only secured a win from their last Carabao Cup game on penalties against League One side Rochdale. Anyway, Solskjaer's men became the first team to take points off Liverpool ten days ago. As to direct encounters, Man UTD head into this game knowing they are unbeaten in their last four against Chelsea, including a win here in the FA Cup last season. Furthermore, the wounds of the 4-0 loss that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men inflicted upon the Blues earlier this season are still fresh.

Paul Pogba is not expected back until December as he continues to struggle with an ankle injury. Diogo Dalot, Nemanja Matic and Luke Shaw have not travelled with the squad while Eric Bailly and Axel Tuenzebe are still sidelined. Both youngster Brandon Williams and James Garner could get minutes, with former likely to start as left-back. Anthony Martial has returned to fitness but could be rested. The same can be said for Marcus Rashford. As a result, Mason Greenwod is expected to lead the line, supported by Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Tahith Chong.
