Burnley vs Liverpool betting preview
Burnley are trying to open with two straight Premier League home wins for first time since 2009-10Burnley have claimed four points from their first three games and are sixth in the table. The Clarets started the season with a superb win against Southampton but that was followed defeat by Arsenal. Only a last gasp weekend scored by Wolves' Raul Jimenez denied them the second seasonal victory at Molineaux last weekend. They suffered a surprising defeat against Sunderland (1-3) in the EFL Cup in midweek. Burnley have lost 8 of their last 10 league meetings with Liverpool but they have also scored in 17 of their 20 home league games since the start of last season.
The hosts remain without the services of midfielders Robbie Brady and Steven Defour. One significant tactical problem for the Clarets could be the absence of Icelandic winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson. Danny Drinkwater made his Burnley debut in midfield but he is far from 100% fitness. As a result Aaron Lennon or Jeff Hendrick will deputise for Gudmundsson, most likely the former. Up front, Ashley Barnes - who has already scored four goals in the top flight - will be partnered by Chris Wood, with Jay Rodriguez a viable alternative.
Liverpool are currently on a 12-game winning run in the top flight dating back to last seasonLiverpool are the only team in the top tier to have collected maximum points so far. They’ve even tied up another honour, winning the UEFA Super Cup final against Chelsea. The Reds have not been at their best defensively this term and have conceded in all of their opening league matches. The Reds have won 8 of their last 10 matches against Burnley in all competitions and are on a three match winning streak against the Clarets. heir previous meeting at Turf Moor resulted in a 3-1 win for the Reds
Jurgen Klopp is likely to stick with largely the same side, although Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may come into the midfield to offer a little more pace in midfield. The German manager will understandably rely on his lethal attacking trio of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, with Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri having to be content with places on the bench. In defense, Joe Gomez is an alternative at centre-half or right-back should he decides to rest a regular starter. Alisson is out for the Reds and will not return until after the international break. Nathaniel Clyne remains the other long-term absentee after rupturing his ACL during pre-season.
