Arsenal vs Liverpool betting preview
Arsenal currently occupies the third position with 46 points after 22 gameweeks. They have suffered three defeats in the last five rounds (W2 L3) and are now trailing Liverpool by 5 points. Anyway, the Gunners have put their festive wobble behind them with back-to-back victories against Crystal Palace (5-0) and Nottingham Forest (2-1). Mikel Arteta's men have a good home record in recent weeks, boasting six wins from their last seven top-flight contests at the Emirates Stadium. Their only defeat came at the hands of West Ham (0-2).
Liverpool are top of the league with 51 points from 22 matches. They restored their five-point lead with a comprehensive 4-1 victory against Chelsea. The Reds - who are without defeat in 11 games in all competitions - have only drawn twice since the calendar hit December, one of those a 1-1 draw with the Gunners. Plus, Jurgen Klopp's men boast the best defensive record of the league with only 19 goals conceded so far.
Arsenal were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium just a few weeks ago, in the FA Cup. Anyway, the North Londoners were the better team for much of the match and should really have won the game, but were let down by some poor finishing. As to the Premier League, the Gunners made it three games unbeaten against the Reds by leaving Anfield with a point in a 1-1 December draw.
Probable Lineups
Arsenal (4-2-3-1): Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Odegaard, Rice, Havertz; Saka, Jesus, Martinelli
Emile Smith Rowe will hope to keep his place, after getting the nod over Kai Havertz against Forest. No changes are expected elsewhere with Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli starting upfront, and the likes of Ben White, Gabriel Magalhaes, William Saliba and Oleksandr Zinchenko forming the four man backline. Thomas Partey is back in training and will probably make the bench. Takehiro Tomiyasu is still playing the Asian Cup glory Japan, but Mohamed Elneny is due to return to domestic duty following Egypt's elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Jones, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Jota, Gakpo, Diaz
Liverpool remain without Mohamed Salah - the Egyptian continues his recovery from a hamstring injury picked up while at the Africa Cup of Nations - while Darwin Nunez is a concern for Sunday’s clash after picking up a foot injury in the Chelsea match. Wataru Endo, Mohamed Salah, Kostas Tsimikas, Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara will all miss the match due to injuries and international duty. Cody Gakpo is likely to start as central forward, flanked by Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz. At right back, Trent Alexander-Arnold will feature from the off, despite Conor Bradley's impressive fine recent display. Alexis MacAllister should recover in time to start in midfield here, alongside Dominic Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones.
Best Odds
Arsenal begin the match as favourites with football betting sites, with BetGoodwin pricing their victory at 11/8. The draw is available at 11/4 with BC.Game while Betfred are offering 21/10 for a Liverpool victory.
Arsenal vs Liverpool Betting Tips
It's a hard call here as it will be a fierce battle for sure.Jurgen Klopp’s side have been practically unbeatable this season while Mikel Arteta’s squad have collected 26 points from a possible 33 in their 11 home league games to date.
The German manager has announced he will leave the club at the end of this season but this will not have a negative influence on the team (you might be interested in our "Next Liverpool manager odds" analysis).
The previous two Premier League meetings between these two team have ended in draws, including the reverse fixture at Anfield in December.
As a result, we believe there could be a third consecutive draw and we back the 1-1 in the Correct Score market.
The both teams to score option is also appealing.
As to player betting, with Mohamed Salah out and Darwin Nunez doubtful, we would not be surprised to see Diogo Jota as the visitors' main threat.
