Joshua vs Povetkin Betting Preview
Anthony Joshua boasts a massive height and reach advantage in this fightWorld heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (21-0, 20 KOs) currently holds holds the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO world titles. AJ only dropped his 100% knockout ratio when taken 12 rounds by Joseph Parker on March but he has vowed to “go back to the old me” and go out “guns blazing” for this fight. Joshua, who became a true superstar with a dramatic TKO win over longtime-champion Wladimir Klitschko in April 2017, has beaten Carlos Takam in the 10th round in his first post-Klitschko bout.
Joshua is the bigger man again with a five inch height advantage and a seven inch reach advantage. He has also proved his stamina against Parker and ability to steer clear of trouble and see a fight over the line when out in front. When Klitschko came up against Povetkin he dominated behind a jab and grab strategy, somthing Joshua has successfully done against Joe Parker. If favourite Joshua does get the job done the stage is almost set for a bout to decide the undisputed world heavyweight champion against undefeated American Deontay Wilder. Interesting stats tell us that only 30% of all bets placed on this fight have been in favour of AJ so far.
25/1 Anthony Joshua to win by KO
Povetkin suffered just one professional defeat in his career and has never been knocked outAlexander Povetkin (34-1) has gotten this shot by virtue of being the WBA mandatory. He has lost just one of his 35 fights, defeated on points to the legendary Wladimir Klitschko in October 2013. Since then the Russian has won eight consecutive bouts, including a knockout victory over David Price on the Joshua-Parker undercard when brutally stopped David Price with a thunderous left. Furthermore, he has never been stopped and recorded solid wins over Ruslan Chagaev, Carlos Takam, Christian Hammer and Manuel Charr.
Povetkin is much shorter and more compact than Joshua. He is not fleet of foot, but likes to come inside, unleash body shots, and a big overhand right. He has serious KO power, as shown by his 75 per cent ratio of opponents he has finished in the ring. Anyway, Povetkin is past his best at 39 and we should not forget he was caught with a left-hook by David Price last time out and received a count in the third round. Should Joshua catch Povetkin with a similar punch, it could be 'game over' at Wembley.
