2019 ARC DE TRIOMPHE BETTING PREVIEW
Run over 1m4f and staged at Longchamp racecourse, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is one of Europe’s most valuable Group One horse race that is open to horses of either sex that are aged 3 or older. All eyes will be on ENABLE as she looks to make it three-in-a-row at this very race. She arrives in France bang in form after defeating Crystal Ocean in an epic King George, before comfortably retaining the Yorkshire Oaks where she readily beat old adversary Magical by two and a quarter lengths. Enable has not been beaten since April 2017. Since then she has clocked up 12 wins
JAPAN beat Crystal Ocean – who had previously pushed Enable close in an epic King George – in the Juddmonte International at York last time out. The Aidan O’Brien-trained three-year-old has won three consecutive races coming into this. With five wins from eight starts, he’s more than capable of causing an upset.
The main French hope looks to be the J-C Rouget-trained SOTTSASS, who has now won 4 of his six starts. He produced a shock win over Persian King back in June and has since followed that up with a further win in the Prix Niel last time.
Since the defeat to Enable in the Yorkshire Oaks, MAGICAL has backed up the form by winning the Irish Champion Stakes. Another second-place finish at Sandown suggests she could be well-placed to capitalise if the favourite surprisingly struggles.
GHAIYYAT features prominently on ratings and could be even higher were a literal interpretation taken of his 14-length rout in the Grosser Preis Von Baden last month, Germany’s most important race.
Andre Fabre's WALDGEIST came within two lengths of Enable in a race in July, and won his last start at Longchamp. He’s got plenty of experience (20 runs) and was only beaten 1 ¾ lengths in this race 12 months ago.
NAGANO GOLD is well-versed around the Longchamp turf, and almost pulled off an almighty shock at Royal Ascot with a second-place finish in the Hardwicke Stakes.
FRENCH KING has had one hell of a season so far, winning four races on the spin. The last of those wins was in the Grosser Preis von Berlin, formerly known as the Deutschland-Preis, one of Germany’s most prestigious races Group One races.
BLAST ONEPIECE, a strong stayer who managed to win the Group 2 Sapporo Kinen over 1m2f last time out (with FIEREMENT back in 3rd position), is perhaps the pick of the Japanese contingent.
