WTA 2012 Australian Open (Women) betting preview and predictions

Unlike the men’s side the 2012 Women’s Australian Open Tennis Championship is wide open. Last season 4 different women won the 4 Grand Slam events. Kim Clijsters won here. TOP CONTENDERSPETRA KVITOVA 5.50
The huge-hitting Czech won Wimbledon and ended the season on a 12-match winning streak. She went undefeated at the prestigious year-end championships then led her country to the Fed Cup title. The draw has been pretty kind to her, avoiding the real big guns in the bottom half of the draw. She's is unbeatable on a good day but despite an excellent 2011 season, her consistency still leaves room for improvement.

SERENA WILLIAMS 6.00
The American suffered an injury scare last week when she rolled her ankle but she has time to recover and enjoys a reputation of working her way into Grand Slams. Like Kvitova, Williams will be happy with the draw, going off in the bottom half. Williams is 30 years old but she still won 2 tournaments last year and was the runner up at the U.S. Open. Serena has won the Australian Open 5 times, including back to back in 2009 and 2010.

VICTORIA AZARENKA 10.00
She warmed up well by winning the title in Sydney, but she's never done it on the biggest stage with just one Grand Slam semi-final on her resume after 18 attempts. She lost in the fourth round here last year. Her section of the draw isn’t too challenging with Flavia Pennetta and Shuai Peng as possible fourth round foes. Azarenka couldto win here here first grand slam title.

KIM CLIJSTERS 15.00
She looked good in Brisbane until sustaining a worrying hip injury in the semifinals. Clijsters has potential matches against Daniela Hantuchova in the third round and Na Li in the fourth round. There is doubts over whether she is 100% although she claims to be ready and willing to take on the challenge. If there were no doubts over her fitness she would be outright favourite.

NEXT IN LINENA LI 17.00
She won the 2 titles last year including the French and has a great record on Australian soil. She has won the last 20 out of 23 matches Down Under and she looks to have come out firing. Na Li was the runner up at the Australian Open in 2011 but this year she is in the same section of the draw as Wozniacki, Clijsters, and Hantuchova.

CAROLINE WOZNIACKI 21.00
Number #1 player in the world and the #1 seed here. She lost in the quarters at Sydney this year where she picked up a wrist injury in Sydney last week which threatened to exclude her from the tournament altogether. Wozniacki has only played in one grand slam final in her career.

SAMANTHA STOSUR 26.00
The 27 year old Australian Stosur won her first grand slam title last year at the U.S. Open. She will definitely be the crowd favorite in her home country, but with that comes a lot of pressure and furthermore she's totally out of form. She is in the same section of the draw as Bartoli and Kvitova.

DARK HORSESAGNIESZKA RADWANSKA 67.00
Radwanska reached the semis at Sydney this year and had 3 wins last year. She made it to the quarters here last year. She is in the same section of the draw as Azarenka. Radwanska caught fire last fall, winning back-to-back big titles in Tokyo and Beijing. She was one win away from advancing the semis of the year-end championships but lost to Wozniacki 6-4 in the third.

MARIA SHARAPOVA 34.00
won two tournaments last year, and withdrew from the Brisbane event with an ankle injury. Sharapova is the #4 seed here after getting beat in the fourth round last year in Melbourne. She made it to the semifinals at the French Open and was the runner up at Wimbledon.

KAIA KANEPI 201.00
She pulled out one of the best entire tournament performances in Auckland recently. Full of power, confidence and sheer brilliance. She will have to survive a third round matchup with Zvonareva, and a fourth round match with Serena.
