Spain vs Germany Betting Preview

Spain will be full of confidence heading into this clash as they hammered Costa Rica 7-0 on Wednesday to kick off their World Cup campaign in impressive style. They harried and pressed their opponents at every opportunity and didn’t allow Costa Rica any time on the ball. Luis Enrique has been proving over the last few years that a system is more effective than individual star player, and his strategy is paying dividends at the right time (despite they are the third youngest team at the FIFA World Cup this year).

Germany will be feeling the pressure of their horrible start to the tournament in Qatar. They lost 2-1 against Japan in their first Group E match on Wednesday with Ritsu Doan and Takuma Asano scoring in the second half to cancel out Ilkay Gundogan's penalty. Die Mannschaft's competition could be over as soon as Sunday, should they succumb to Spain and Japan don't lose to Costa Rica. Defense remain their main concern as Hansi Flick's men have conceded in each of their last eight competitive fixtures, including against Armenia, Hungary and Japan.

Germans do not boast a strong record against Spain. They have lost the most recent two direct encounters and are winless in their last five with La Roja. In their previous meeting at the UEFA Nations League 2020, Spain defeated Germany 6-0.

Best Odds

With these two nations being full of amazing talent, the bookies are struggling to pick a favourite. Spain narrowly has the edge, with VBet offering 24/17 for La Roja to win. Germany are 2/1 to bounce back with Unibet while the draw is backable at 27/10 with Betzone.

Probable Line-Ups

Spain (4-3-3): Simón; Azpilicueta, Rodri, Laporte, Alba; Gavi, Busquets, Pedri; Torres, Asensio, Olmo.

Enrique is expected to name an unchanged side from the one that thrashed Costa Rica, meaning the likes of Marco Asensio will get the nod over Alvaro Morata for the central striker berth. Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres will comple the front trio. In midfield, Gavi and Pedri looked like Xavi and Iniesta intheir prime, and they will flank veteran Sergi Busquets in the middle of the park. At the back, Dani Carvajal will have to be content with a place on the bench as Jordi Alba and Cesar Azpilicueta will retain their starting berth at full backs.

Germany (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Süle, Rüdiger, Schlotterbeck, Raum; Kimmich, Gündogan; Gnabry, Müller, Musiala; Havertz.

Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane is the only injury doubt, meaning that Hansi Flick will probably stick with Kai Havertz up front, unless he decides to play with Thomas Muller as false nine and give Julian Brandt or Mario Gotze a rare start. Another candidate to make the starting XI is Leon Goretzka, with Ilkay Gundogan or Joshua Kimmich's berths in danger. At the back, Nico Schlotterbeck will partner Antonio Rudiger, while nicklas Sulè and David Raum will play as full backs.

Spain v Germany Predictions

Spain will be looking to capitalise on Germany's defensive issues, exploited in the second half by Japan.

La Roja have collected maximum points in 17 of their last 20 outings while Hansi Flick's men have been inconsistent in the last 2 years and lost 6-0 when these sides last met in November 2020..

Die Mannschaft suffered this fate four years ago in Russia and there is every chance they could be heading for an early exit again.

As a result, we back Spain to win or draw. With qualification at stake, we expect a tight game and recommend the Under 3.5 goals bet. The correct score could be a 1-1 draw or Spain to win 2-1.

As to goalscorer, we believe Ferran Torres (Spain's penalty taker) is the best option..
