SOUTHAMPTON vs TOTTENHAM BETTING PREVIEW
Southampton only managed to earn a draw last weekend, as they surrendered a two-goal lead against a struggling Watford. They have now failed to win any of their last 10 Premier League games - collecting a paltry five points from a possible 30 in the process - and sit just one point above the relegation zone. They have only scored 23 goals in 23 games this season and conceded 34 goals. The Saints were thrashed by Spurs 5-2 when the teams met at Wembley last month, with Harry Kane bagging a hat-trick.
Since Maya Yoshida is still doubtful, Jack Stephens and Wesley Hoedt may again form the centre-back partnership alongside Cedric Soares and Ryan Bertrand in an unchanged back four. The Saints boss may revert to a 4-3-3 formation to bulk out the midfield, with Mario Lemina likely to join Oriol Romeu and Pierre-Emile Hojberg in the middle of the park. Up front, Shane Long is favourite over Manolo Gabbiadini for the central striker berth while James Ward-Prowse and Dusan Tadic should play out wide. Sofiane Boufal provide a further option while Charlie Austin remains out through injury.
Tottenham were impressive last weekend as they enjoyed a hammering 4-0 victory against Everton at Wembley Stadium. They sit in fifth position, three points off the top four and are unbeaten in the last five Premier League games, collecting 13 points from a possible 15, and the goals have been flowing in that time with Mauricio Pochettino’s side averaging three goals per game. They have failed to win just two of their last eight Premier League games - a 4-1 loss at Manchester City and a 1-1 draw with West Ham. As to direct matches, Spurs have won 9 of their last 11 matches against the Saints in all competitions.
Hugo Lloris is a doubt for the trip to Southampton due to illness while Danny Rose and Harry Winks are sidelined. Toby Alderweireld is back in training but Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen are expected to start as centre-backs. Eric Dier will be joined Mousa Dembele in central midfield, with Victor Wanyama, Moussa Sissoko and Erik Lamela providing viable alternatives. No changes are expected up front, as Son Heung-Min, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen will support the lone striker Harry Kane.
